Meanwhile, keep watching for shortage reports, because we should start seeing some sneak in this week, if our doom-o-meter is calibrated correctly.

As you all know, the effects of Peak Oil are becoming more pronouced by the day.

As a result, people will begin to search for answers, especially on the internet.

This in turn creates a high probability that individuals will end up here.

Our numbers are too few to try and educate everyone. There are just too many people.

So I think what we need to do, in order to handle the massive influx of new comers, is have an action commitee(which I may be a part of) to organize threads.
Have a thread -Everything Nuclear-
With links and a small summary of what the link is about.
THat way all the nuclear threads could be tied together, and anyone looking for that info, could easily find it in one thread.

There could be another -everything food-
and another -Hydrocarbon Depletion Basics-

-Overshoot Basics- Ect...

This Summer, I'll have a little spare time, and I could pitch in and work on this. If each of us did one of this threads that addressed one or more major issues, then people could quickly navigate and get all the information they needed.

Also, some of us could write basic tutorials on these things.

What do you think?

What if there were a big link on the opening page that said:

FIRST TIME HERE--CLICK

And it would take them to an overview of peak oil, broken down as follows:

1. What people agree about

- geological fact--when, not if
- modern prosperity has been a product of cheap energy
- production capacity bottlenecks

2. What people disagree about

- when
- role of alternative energy
- effect of peak oil on exponential growth assumptions

3. Peak oil effects you might not think about

- food shortages
- overpopulation/die-off
- zombie control

Something like that. An easy and unbiased read that clearly states areas of uncertainty and disagreement. Provide links on certain key words that take you to threads discussing that topic.

At the bottom there could be another link that said:

FREAKED OUT?--IT GETS WORSE.

This link would take them to a random golem thread.

We are Legion.

No, but seriously. Nice earnest intentions Kylon. Why not start your own site, or better still: write (ANOTHER) book about all those things? You can't force people to ask questions, or even look for answers. Besides, I'm convinced most are quite happy being kept in the dark.

Our demographics currently show around 25% new folks... 75% of our traffic is from repeat visitors.

Just sayin'

I'm happy to consider a rewrite of our "read more" link on the homepage.

The "Everything <topic>" is a interesting and good idea. And, anyone can do it. If it turns out good maybe the mods will make it sticky. There's already an "Everything Kylon" Razz
