Iraqi Soldiers Flee Fighting

A company of Iraqi soldiers abandoned their positions in Sadr City, defying American soldiers who implored them to hold the line against the Shiite militias.

The retreat on Tuesday night left a crucial stretch of road on the front lines undefended for hours and led to a tense series of exchanges between American soldiers and about 50 Iraqi troops who were fleeing.

This episode was a blow to the American effort to push the Iraqis into the lead in the struggle to wrest control of parts of Sadr City from the Mahdi army militia.

Here is evidence that militias are not always reliable. Popular struggle is stronger than mercernary motive in the long run.

Edit: that was careless of me, I believe this is a state army fleeing a militia. However, Maliki's militia's have also fled these Sadrists.

It's started, after Sadr's final ultimatum shia mosques are now calling men to arms against US and puppet governement, for a war of liberation to end the occupation.
