How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?

I don't get it, Aaron you think your girl got pregnant while you weren't paying attention?
Isn't one of the major arguments on this site that people should have fewer children? Or does that only apply to OTHER people? Like Nigerians, say?
I think the statement that life happens while you worry about other things shows you were not planning on adding this child to the future of the U.S, or was it a planned pregnancy?
Everybody goes goo gaa but secretly thinks sheesh, thank god that's not me ....
Today the site has a member quote claiming to be consciously killing others by buying a 40lb bag of rice and hoarding. I really hope it's not your girlfriend or your new child who ends up being consciously starved by someone on this site .....

It's a common argument, that concludes with Jevons Paradox.
The Nigerians will keep having kids if there is spare grain to send
them. If the grain gets used up here first, it gets used here first and
Nigerians starve. And eventually Nigerians starve anyway. But
getting back to the paradox, if you buy a bicycle, someone else gets
a better deal on gas for their SUV. In a world system run by chaotic
free markets, your conservation will be used by others, this includes
attempts at conservative procreation.
Jevons paradox
"...reducing the amount needed for a given output, improved
efficiency lowers the cost of using a resource – which increases demand."

A pallendrom? How clever!
I've always liked Gillian, Phoebe, Emily, Gretel and Caitlin. Fiona is pretty, too.
Always the clever one eh?
Nicely done.

No, it was a welcome, but unexpected surprise, (at our age).
I hear your pain about breeding into the energy future. I really do.
On the other hand, more Aaron's running around might be a really good thing.
In any event, despite planning to the contrary... here we are.

That's what they say about battle plans; they all go out the window with the first tussle, sorta speak.

Surely an intellectual-internet argument of some, others say none and others say "let them eat cake" or something harsher.
But at the root, like every other living thing, we are born to survive to reproduce. Hopefully we humans have learned a few lessons during the oil age we can pass on to our offspring.
I guess there is no other choice except voluntary extinction.
Not really an option - at least once you have held a baby...

NORAA
The voilets were scenting the woods, Noraa
Displaying their charms to the bee
When I first said I loved only you, Noraa
And you said you loved only me.
The chestnut blooms gleamed through the glade, Noraa
A robin sang loud from a tree
When I first said I loved only you, Noraa
And you said you loved only me
The golden-robed daffodils shone, Noraa
And danced in the breeze on the lea
When I first said I loved only you, Noraa
And you said you loved only me
The trees, birds and bees sang a song, Noraa
Of happier transports to be
When I first said I loved only you, Noraa
And you said you loved only me _________________ www.askaboutenergy.com
I suggested he Mike part was because it is my name! I didn't think about the Duke but a girl with that nickname would be pretty cool! _________________ Make a plan and work it:

Just make sure her first name isn't Daisy. _________________ "I was born in a deep forest
