Meanwhile, keep watching for shortage reports, because we should start seeing some sneak in this week, if our doom-o-meter is calibrated correctly.

and the failure of modern agriculture.

Starts in a few minutes on France 2

"Les tresors naturels de la Terre ne sont pas inepuisables.
En 30 ans, 30 % des ressources vivantes de la planete ont disparu. Le plus grand defi de l'homme consiste aujourd'hui a concilier la croissance et les richesses limitees de la planete..."

Please, tell us on the forum how was it any good. If it was good I'll send feedback to our tv companies if they air it.

It was very good for wide-audience programming.

It went into,

for industrial ag:
- soil degradation from industrial farming
- dangers to the environment from pesticides
- global warming implications
- GMO problems
- reduced biodiversity
and other issues

for alternatives
- local farming initiatives with direct selling (AMAP in France)
- multi-cropping (in India) without pesticides, where previously soil was being destroyed
- keeping biodiversity in agriculture
- food quality and quantity
- the fact that we can can feed the world organically (see FAO)

It was a bit light on the positives, tending to choose a few examples that weren't really that intensive. But the mention of the FAO report stressing that Organic ag can feed the world was news to me. Here's a link to their pdf report

These are links to more in-depth documents

David Pimentel on organic farming: Link.

Quote:
David Pimentel, a Cornell University professor of ecology and agriculture, concludes, "Organic farming offers real advantages for such crops as corn and soybeans." Pimentel is the lead author of a study that is published in the July issue of Bioscience (Vol. 55:7) analyzing the environmental, energy and economic costs and benefits of growing soybeans and corn organically versus conventionally. The study is a review of the Rodale Institute Farming Systems Trial, the longest running comparison of organic vs. conventional farming in the United States.

"Organic farming approaches for these crops not only use an average of 30 percent less fossil energy but also conserve more water in the soil, induce less erosion, maintain soil quality and conserve more biological resources than conventional farming does," Pimentel added.

Pretty dumb programme.

If France were to scrap its billions of farm subsidies, there would be no hunger in the world.

That's all their is to it. The rest is fiction and fantasy.
