Interesting to see the different reactions in each of the countries to the problem:
Zambia: "We don't know what happened and we don't know when it will get better"
Iran: "Riots and looting at the gas stations"
Nepal: "Scuffles at the gas pumps"
Argentina: "Find the facists in charge and fine them"

Interesting reports!
Dare I say it sounds like supply is insufficient to meet demand?
But the cornies (a short, derisive term for cornucopians) close their eyes and say they see no evidence of peak oil. I wonder if they will remain blind when the riots come to their neighborhood.

You have to wonder when we start seeing reports like those coming in from First World countries.

| it's quite interesting to google "fuel shortage" on the news search. A lot of developing nations there... and these are those we hear aboat. All the really primitive places that we do not hear from may be considered now reverted to woodfires for cooking/heating and animals or people for goods transport and agriculture labour. |

It looks like Nigeria is heading from 15% refinery utiliization to 0% - in the middle of already severe diesel and gasoline shortages:

A massive explosion, caused by crude spillage from one of the tanks at the Warri Refinery yesterday resulted in an inferno that gutted part of the ailing refinery yesterday.
Although no life was lost, vessels on the Ubeki Creek, including badges and boats and other valuables, were said to have been torched as the ravaging fire spread over to the Warri River , where the oil vessels were berthing.
THISDAY checks revealed that the spillage of crude from the tank which spread towards the river resulted in the massive explosions which reportedly razed some property belonging to the communities.
Spokesman of the corporation, Dr. Levi Ajuonuma, who confirmed this in a telephone interview with THISDAY last night, explained that the cause of the fire can only be known after the investigation which he said, has commenced immediately.
Efforts to put the refineries in operation were truncated by the youths in the area that prevented engineers from carrying out repairs on the facilities.
The damaged pipeline transports crude to both the Warri and Kaduna refineries, forcing the two refineries to stop operations in the last one year. |

You're right. But then, there have always been "above-ground" factors.
The question is: When an "above-ground factor" disrupts a supply, why don't we just get it from somewhere else?
Answer: Because there IS NO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
That's "geology" for you. "Geology" says, "You've tapped all your most productive sources. So if there's a problem, you're on your own."

Yes. Shortages in these impoverished countries results from one specific "above ground factor," money.
But it is false to assume the two are not related. Poor people are being priced out of the market because a geologic factor, dwindling supply has jacked up the price.
