We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.

Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.

We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

This forum is not a dumping ground for all geopolitical debate, but for geopolitics related to "energy."

If you can't tie your post to the geopolitics of energy, then it goes in the Open forum.

All offenders will be moved.

Yep, like that. BTW, lutherquick has elected to remove his account at peakoil.com...says it is a waste of time and he isn't making any money doing it. LOL!

The discussion of the geopolitics of energy these days should be focused around Nigeria, Angola, Venezuela, the East and South China Seas with Japan and China the players. Of course, the ME issues overlap into energy, but we dont have to weave them into every post.

Shock now there won't be anything happening here!

I kicked up some of the better threads. And remember, we have a whole lot of lurkers here, so a lot is happening. And just perhaps we can stay on topic.

Folks, stu created threads on almost every country that has energy issues going on. Let's post to those threads before starting new ones. Do a search. Some are buried 3 or 4 pages back.

Some events will warrant their own thread. I'm not saying we can't start new threads, but that we try to post relevant posts to existing threads on the exact same topic.

That would include every political move now, it is all related to lack of energy.

Then make a compelling case for it in your post.

The MidEast Crisis right now is about Arabs vs the Jews.

Been going on a long time before energy got scarce.

Goes in Open forum.

Is there a way to make topics in "Open" show up in response to the "Last 24 Hours" command?

Yes, but by unamious demand, the HOF and Open forum was not wanted in the last 24 hours command.

Click on "view posts since last visit" on the bar where your name is for that.

2 Monte,

Moving geopolitical topics to the Open Forum has one disadvantage. The Open Forum has all the topics which are offtopics even among offtopics. This effectively means if you move a more or less serious topic in there, it will have been drowned in the smalltalk in no time. Is there some other forum where you could move offtopics?

No, that is what the Open forum is for. If you wish to discuss serious topics that are not related to hydrocarbon depletion or geopolitical events not related to energy, do it there. It is the catch-all.

Off Topic Posts! Post off-topic current events news & media here.

The Open Forum is for ANY topic and not necessarily about peakoil related issues.

One more question. There are threads for many countries, excluding Russia. This is due to the fact that lutherquick has been spamming the forum with zillion different topics about russia. Now that he is gone I think this forum needs one topic for Russia also. What do you think?

I have already spent hours cleaning up his flooding. We are working on making things better and faster. All in due time.

Pity with the first question... I do not think people go to the open forum to discuss serious things Sad

Peakoil.com is about hydrocarbon depletion. If the Open forums doesn't work for you, sorry. We cannot accomodate every issue out there.
