We cannot drill our way out of this oil crisis. Since 2000, oil companies working in the U.S. have doubled the number of wells drilled per year.
Although increased drilling has added new oil to the nation's supply, it has not done so fast enough to offset the terminal decline of existing fields.
We are going to have to import more of our oil. Period.

Whats the news from the Bayou City?
I am finding that my friends and relatives in the Houston area are deeply entrenched in denial.
Moreso than any other group of friends/relatives that I've been speaking to.
Knowing the area quite well, I'm pretty concerned. I don't know how to encourage my family. _________________ “When people get married because they think it's a long-time love affair, they'll be divorced very soon, because all love affairs end in disappointment. Seriously, it's like Houston is asleep.
No response from other Houston Peak Oil forums, either.
My mother has seen the writing on the wall, the rest of my family is in deep trouble. _________________ “When people get married because they think it's a long-time love affair, they'll be divorced very soon, because all love affairs end in disappointment. I was in Houston for several hours on Friday. Couldn't wait to get out. It's my home town and still feels like home to me, but I can't help thinking it's going to be on the short list of the worst places to be when things accelerate. Can't give you any advice about the denial, sorry - people are hard to reach, at least for me. I got my mom out of there last summer and hopefully my sister will get out in about 6 months. _________________ The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done." - George Carlin

I just don't know.
Maybe it's my presentation, it's hard to find the right balance of urgency without sounding like a lunatic.
I'm planning a trip home to Houston this fall, it's very likely to be my last.
I hope not, but who knows? _________________ “When people get married because they think it's a long-time love affair, they'll be divorced very soon, because all love affairs end in disappointment. But marriage is a recognition of a spiritual identity.” - Joseph Campbell
