How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?

We have been making many upgrades and improvements to the site lately.
Please posts suggestions on how we might better serve the membership.
What do you wish the moderators would do better?
What are some of your beefs?
What do you find frustrating?
What help tools would you like to have?
Thanks!

Get the two(?) servers time-synced. I've noticed replies before posts which makes following some threads "interesting" to follow. _________________ "Complex problems have simple, easy to understand, wrong answers." - Henry Louis Mencken

We are working on that. Not a simple fix. Got it down to 30 sec diff. We will see if that is close enough for the moment. _________________ A Saudi saying, "My father rode a camel. I drive a car. My son flies a jet-plane. His son will ride a camel."

Thread subscriptions? I know of other boards that have them. Don't know if PO.com uses different software or what. I lurk on a lot of threads without contributing to them...would be nice to be able to subscribe to them and follow them more easily. _________________ In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations, and epochs it is the rule. – Nietzsche

We have that. You can set it to notify you via personal e-mail of each and every thread you post to or set to watch when a new reply is posted.

We are having difficulties with it at the moment. Dan is working on it. _________________ A Saudi saying, "My father rode a camel. I drive a car. My son flies a jet-plane. His son will ride a camel."

... increase the number of items in the RSS feed to 20. Often there are so many news items a day that the older (but unread) ones have simply scrolled off the end of the feed.
... have a running display of expenses (hosting, domain, etc.) and expected upcoming expenditure (more bandwidth? servers?) so that members can have an idea of the status and donate as needed.

1)Just a tiny thing I've already asked for: a little script, kept in the left bar, to allow us to convert dollars/euro, gallons/liters and miles/kilometers. Sometimes our discussions, expecially about cars and consumes, get tricky because of all the conversions made in every post.
This thingy should be useful in an international forum... (but please, don't make another PC-freezing huge wicked javascript! LOL!!!)
2)Who's going to select the keywords for adsense? Just now I see ads for luxury villas in Puerto Vallarta! I think that selecting keywords about survival and useful survival tools, or energy savers, would lead to many more hits. You can launch a sticky thread to allow members suggest keywords. Just my 2 eurocents!

PS The forum is perfect and very well mantained and moderated. Thank you for all the great work. _________________ **no english mothertongue**

I was donating money before using paypal via the donate link, but for the last month the module hasn't been activated. I think the last month before the donate module was taken down, there was about $60 donated just in that month.

For the news posts, I don't like the fact that the story is not linked from the intial page/exerpt. We have to link via "Read More..." which usually just repeats the story exerpt word for word with no addtional text, then there is the link to the story.

It's based on how many posts you have made. The moderators all have five stars, someone like ludi who is a insanely high post count has fusion under there name. Most of the long time posters are at sweet light crude, and so on down to coal. We all start out as coal. _________________ Azreal60

Thank you azreal60!
Oh boy, so many insane fusion carrots to look forward to. Well, at least I have a good supply of coal for my chimney stockings this year...

A new Code of Conduct will be coming out soon in an effort to address site issues and to raise the level of discourse above name calling. Some members here can't seem to post at all without resorting to ad hominem attacks. The professionalism is at an all time low.
We wish this site to be a portal of information that not only academia, but all readers, do not view as immature and childish.
I would learn to drop those very negative aspects of your debate repertoire or learn to take it to the Hall of Flames.

Can a n*gga get a fast reply option up in this bitch?
I don't know if it's possible with this board's format. But, some boards offer a fast reply option. It's a text box that pops up a the bottom of the thread which allows the poster to submit a reply w/o going to a separate page. _________________ "Abortion doctors aren't baby killers.
