This was fun. My global ethics class got a real kick out the whole thing until the last page. I think they were shocked into silence.

Results:
CATEGORY GLOBAL HECTARES
FOOD 1.6
MOBILITY 0.9
SHELTER 0.8
GOODS/SERVICES 1.3
TOTAL FOOTPRINT 4.6
IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 5.3 GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.
WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 1.8 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.
IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 2.6 PLANETS.
---
Anyone know where we can find another 1.6 Earths lying around? Better than average at least!! :D _________________ Burning the midnight oil, whilst I still can. |

yeah this one is sorta a downer...but it can be fun
Fun things to try...
-Try to get it down to 1 planet
-try other countries to see what their avgs are
US is worst, as you might have guessed. We have to transport everything hundreds if not thousands of miles. Anyone who thinks we will not be hurt at all is in denial. Its hard to say how much tho. I try to stay opimistic, but there is a fine line between denial and optimism.

Got it down to one planet! :D
Trouble is...had to get a lodger in, everyone has to go vegan, everyone must travel using bicycles or on foot and we have to stop flying.
At least that's feasible - to a certain degree. Although not at all desirable. _________________ Burning the midnight oil, whilst I still can. |

And the other questions too...but the country really makes a difference.

wow.
I'm using more than I thought... and we grow a lot of our own food... but I drive far more than I would like for my job... yet one more reason to quit the damn job and start investing my time where it will be more productive in the long run - my homestead.

FOOD 1.4
MOBILITY 0.2
SHELTER 0.5
GOODS/SERVICES 1.1
TOTAL FOOTPRINT 3.2
3.2 -> 1.8 planets.
Doh.
Attempting to ditch the car didn't seem to make too much difference :
3.0 -> 1.7 planets.
Ah well. Managed to get down to 1.0 planet with no car, no public transport (100% telecommuting?), very little meat eating, dump much less rubbish, etc.

14 in Florida. Just so you know, southern Florida is one of the worst largely populated areas in the country for public transportation. _________________ "If humans don't control their numbers, nature will." -Pimentel
