It that for the October contract? The November contract crossed $68.01 at closing.

Yes - that's the October contract. It briefly traded at $68.00 earlier this evening.

The March 06 contract briefly hit $70.00 earlier too.

Cruz if you pick one room to sleep in at night and close off any bad drafts, you'll stay warm. Get goose-down comforters or sleeping bags, nothing beats that stuff for keeping warm. No need for snuggling, 4 in one room will do it and you get to do the "goodnight jim-bob, goodnight john-boy, goodnight mary ellen" thing too. (Many fond memories here of talking to each other in our beds before deciding it was time to Go To Sleep No More Talking here lol)

Yeah, that's good advice for if it's _that bad_, but I'm not expecting that this winter! When I said it'll be cold I just meant that we won't be able to afford to keep it very warm. But your kind of solution could be needed sooner than I'm comfortable with...

And the futures trade, for March '06, touched $70 for the first time late today.

Yup, Mar 2006 hit $70.00.
And Oct 2005 hit $68.00.

Another round of record-setting!

Oil sets a new high; natural gas tops $10
Hurricane fears cited for price increases

Bloomberg News
Published August 25, 2005

The price of oil closed at a record high, and natural gas reached $10 for just the third time ever Wednesday, on concern that a storm heading for Florida may threaten production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

...

"We are on a mission to hit $70 a barrel," said Phil Flynn, vice president of risk management at Alaron Trading Corp. in Chicago. "Whatever the news item, the bullish interpretation is what is taken."
--More--
HA, we've been on that mission for a long, long time and it's only recently started to bear fruit.

With light sweet (WTI etc.) now known to have peaked somewhere between 1 and 5 years ago, we really need to be able to track heavy and heavy-sour stuff such as Maya or Mars better. NYMEX needs to open a Mars futures exchange -- we're seeing a skewed view of the oil market by only following WTI. Sure, WTI is the most productive for gasoline but the market is only going one way from now on. It's old news.

Looks like oil will actually open lower today under $67. The short sellers are at it again. But it is the same story as Yesterday, $67 oil is a bargain and anyone who knows about the true state of oil in the world is going to buy up every drop the short sellers dump.

Is that the closing price? It had briefly touched $68 the other day.
