In North America, where minks (and related predators) are among the native species, the environmental impact is minimal. Most will starve or be killed by more experienced animals.

Had he done the same thing on an island with no native minks/weasles/stoats/mongooses/ferrets - plus endangered ground nesting birds - it would have been an apalling act of ecological vandalism.

Our freedoms are being depleted here too. We've had people arrested for carrying a penknife, convicted for carrying a butter knife, and tagged for protesting (too much)...the list goes on.

The police now use anti-terror laws to move on/arrest anyone they deem causing a nuisance.

To be fair, if you have had shit put through your letter box, cars and windows repeatedly vandalised, letters written to people in your community accusing you of being a pedophile, you would probably be very glad there are finally some laws to put a stop to it.

I remember a couple of months after Sept. 11, Dateline here in Australia did a story about a similar case in America. A young environmental activist firebombed a SUV dealership, late at night. No one was injured and I think the damages where under $100k, yet he was tried for terrorism.



Those eroded liberties will be very difficult to reclaim. This mentality while understandable, is going to be the end of the Democratic system.

While the Neo-cons keep on harping they are out to spread freedom and democracy, their actual intent has been to do the exact opposite to her own citizens, establish a police state, gut the constitution, and keep the sheeple under their thumb with perpetual fear, religious fanaticism and disinformation disseminated through their corporate controlled media.
