A dollar bill is placed on the ground. Around the bill stand Santa Clause, The Easter Bunny, Oil Alternatives, and Economic Collapse, each 50 feet from the bill.
If they have a race, who will win? Economic Collapse... because the other three are make-believe.

Life imitates Art.
(which appears to be a branch of Science, in this case.)

-Customers at the movie theater buy overpriced junk food that they don't touch once through the entire movie.
-People who don't flush a public toilet after going #2, increase in frequency.
-You consider "The Postman", "Waterworld" and the Mad Max films as documentaries, not science fiction.
-You consider buying a DeLorian with a flux capacitor in order to travel back in time to prevent the oil crash.
-You place family in friends in positions of the government you will lead in the post-crash world.
-When someone bothers you, you turn the other cheek because you know they will pay for it after the crash.
-The only way to escape reality by watching television, is to watch a reality TV show.
-Someone like Bush gets elected, or re-elected.
-The next Superbowl halftime show features stark naked strippers. (not that there's anything wrong with that. )
And finally, you know its the end of the world when...
-Matt Savinar says so!
Anyone got any others?

A little over a year ago my mother died at 82. About a year before her death we both became aware of peak oil and talked about it (more than once) and we both remarked how lucky we both were to have our lives positioned so close to the peak of human civilization. She enjoyed the many toys of the day and her life was easy by historical comparison. When you think of the odds, how likely was it that any individual would get to be one of those priveleged to experience these times. When you consider that most of human life has been barely tolerable misery and the last 100 years, by comparison have been heaven.
Unfortunately, my children and grandchildren will not be so lucky and will face the disaster just around the corner. If I could give them the life I have had, I would, but none of us are in control of the time frame whence we enter this brief phenomenon we call life.
So, I think we should look for the best we can find out of the lives that we have been dealt. Just think of it a one big joke that the energy rug is about to be pulled out from under our feet, and we will have the unique experience of fighting for survival against all odds. The old idea that if you are bored with life, then risk it and you will know excitement. Well, think of the excitement we face.
