And if we have hyperinflation chaos, I'd be a little more concerned with what the guy down the street is gonna do than the big bad government.

Things like that and Jotopay's above is why we should not lay the groundwork for making genocide easier. Lets try a 4-part thought experiment. Part 1: Imagine the # of lives that have probably been saved from terrorism by building up the internal security apparatus of the US (probably a few hundred, or a few thousand). Part 2: Compare that to the number killed by the internal security apparatus in Nazi Germany (a lot of which was virtually built from the ground up) - many millions. Part 3: Imagine how many more people probably would have been killed and how much more easily, if Nazi Germany in 1933 had started from the same point & level of technology where we are now. Part 4: Imagine things get as bad here economically etc like they were in Germany before 1933 and that people sucumb to the darker angels of their conscience.

I don't support racial profiling, and certainly something like this can and will be abused, but if someone is setting a dufflebag down in a bus depot, looking nervously left and right, and then walking off, doesn't that set off some red flags? I mean, should we just assume nothing is going on to the point of recklessness? Neighborhood watch is one thing... and most good, properly designed neighborhoods in the world police themselves through eyes-on-the-street (jane jacobs, the death and life of great american cities) without a need for an explicitly defined neighborhood watch. The problem is when its nationalized... or even taken city wide. This reeks of the beginings of Mccarthyism. Whats next? The house un-consumer activities commitee? "I support the american economy by buying unecessary plastic objects... because I care."

Ha, yes that reminds me of a noob who just moved into the hood from the exurbs chatting it up with me and a few neighbors. They were asking if there was a 'neighborhood patrol' - as in people that in their neighborhood would set a time to go walk around. You would have to live in the neighborhood to know how silly that sounds. There are neighbors walking around all the time - going all the places they need to go and taking care of other stuff like walking the dog etc. I told her that if she wanted to pick a time, about 0330 would probably be the best since it's after most people are back from the pubs and just before the early risers walking to work. You might catch a few singles doing the first shift of the hook-up "walk of shame".

If the writing on the photo is accurate, I would say South Dakota in 1891 Wounded Knee Massacre. What's that got to do with anything ?

can't happen here? sheeesh.
one of my neighbors is an ex-Austin cop (for ten years). He went to Iraq working for Blackwater, making beer runs from Mosul to Baghdad, mostly (according to him). he said any family that got within a hundred yards, they "lit them up". he has a flag in his yard, in English and Arabic "if you come within one hundred yards, you will be shot".
A kid who graduated high school with one of my kids went into the marines. He was over at my house the other night, I asked him about this. He said (casually) oh yeah, he doesn't know how many families he killed. He was more concerned with the asbestos exposure he had recieved from punching out the walls in boot camp. He also knew all about DU.
All these people are coming home (if they can). Not good for the bleeding hearts. I said to my neighbor, doesn't look like many people are getting ready for the times ahead. he said, my and my .308 are going to take whatever we want, just like in Iraq.
