This is will make some people here very happy but I have decided to take a break from po.com and not return until oil hits $100. That could be later this year or 5 years from now. I have no idea but I don't care. I figure when oil hits that mark then maybe po members will actually start talking about po and how to prep for a post-peak world.

The site is continuing to deteriorate and I find myself spending a lot of time searching through junk to get to solid info. It appears even the moderators are having a difficult time deleting the junk. The non-stop attacks between po members is also getting very old. Too many people here read something online and think they are an expert and can argue their opinion even though they might be wrong. If someone asks you for a link then provide it.

I am one po member who is actually preparing for a post-peak world. I am nowhere near my end goal but I have a 15 year plan to get to my end goal of a 99.9% self-sufficent lifestyle. I have a financial plan, I work in the oil industry, I have a doomstead already setup, and I have many preps. You would think someone with that knowledge/experience would be viewed as an asset but here the reverse happens. I figure many po members are jealous because I have a plan that is working and I am only 26 years old. They can't get past the fact of me being so young and feel they have to attack me.

I am not leaving because any individual is driving me insane or because I got my feelings hurt. I am leaving because I feel like I am wasting my time. Instead of spending hours each week on po.com I will spend it researching investments, reading homesteading books, and working towards my goal of retiring at 40 years old and moving to my doomstead.

There are some really good po members on this site and I hope all of you seek their advice and learn from them. I know I did.

See you when oil hits $100.

AAA

I have commented on many threads hoping that other po members will realize the problem and start to address it. People are leaving po.com and something needs to stop or else will will continue to go down hill.

PO has been beaten to death here in the past. You missed it.

You showed up at the bank after everyone else. A little to late.

I showed up in mid 2007 as joeltrout and it was a little better then. But shortly thereafter it started going downhill and I took a break then and later reappeared as AAA. Maybe I haven't learned my lesson but I am hoping that po.com will be more about po in the future.

What are you seeking? Maybe you need to hang over at the oil drum?

I started lurking here in 2004, but lost interest until 2006.

Just the cycles of PO time. PO is sleeping now. :)

I spend a lot of time over there. I would bounce back and forth because both sites had good info for different things but po.com is starting to sink and sink fast.

Sometimes the problem becomes part of the solution. Btw, I like your avatar, it reminds me of one of my favorite books, "Two Years Before The Mast" by Richard Henry Dana

I am afraid the crazies are the ones that like to stick around and keep talking about random nothingness.

The avatar is a picture of the Black Pearl parked in our local harbor while it was filming one of the Pirates of the Carribbean movies.

AAA you will be back. We are at a post-peak lull. Many of the serious peakers see no point in beating a dead horse. The newbie incursion will uptick once the price of oil again reaches $100 and the MSM pundits have nothing interesting to say. Then all heck will break loose. Maybe for the last time.

AAA,

Yes, Pops keeps asking, "What are you DOING?" I keep asking for how to get through the economic cricsis that I think will hit us first, or simultaneously with PO. Like you say, when the price of oil is down, less people get enthusiastic about dealing with it. I've had your problem since late in 1974, when the Oil Embargo went away, and all the sheeple went back to BAU. I got pretty burned out, from time to time.

But the answer for me came with the same idea as Pops--DO something, and tell people why you are doing it. Here, or elsewhere doesn't matter. You have a great start on being a good example for others. The more we can educate, the better. The smallest detail you contribute may help someone. Most don't want to listen. Go on to the next person or place, and keep on working at educating.

I quit a great engineering job at GM because I knew they were wrongheaded about most of their business model. In 1980. They have been going downhill since then. It took another 29 years for them to squander all the money they had and all they could borrow, but into the crapper they went this week. I feel a bit vindicated, albeit with the concurrent loss of my pension from GM. PO is like that. It will take a while. Was it Ghandi who said, first they fight you, then they ignore you, then you win! Something like that. Point is, it's a long road. Keep on going.

Good luck, AAA.

Oil is over $68 now. At the rate its been climbing we may well hit $100 by the end of the year.

Too many people predicting and talking out of their asses on this site, was what made this site so active before. A lot of asinine know it all "experts" who can't even begin to grasp the true complexities of this shit was what made this place so interesting, but with hindsight we can see how we are all the folly of people with writing prowess, but without the actual intellectual competence and mental acuity to determine the truth for themselves, but with the ability to regurgitate those that came before and to add a flair for the dramatic.

So as you sit there in your comfortable chair in your air conditioned home discursively lecturing us on our lack of focus and dedication to stimulating conversation, please keep in mind that society will break down, when it breaks down and our continuous posturing on here about specificities is only out of fear and our need to command control over our own inadequate preparedness for a time without 24 hour cable news and big macs.

So in the words of Edward R. Murrow… “Good Night and Good Luck”

Still thinking price in dollars has anything to do with the problem...

Not a positive sign. Still, I'm sure oil will tap your stated benchmark numerous times over the next few years. Perhaps after enough run-up, recession, price-crash cycles; you may come to the conclusion that the price of a static, useful commodity is more dependent upon the state of the economy; than the price is causitive of anything.
