I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

I may seem like I'm coming to the party a little late, but I have been aware of Peak Oil for quite some time thanks to the scholarly work of Micheal Ruppert in his book, "Crossing the Rubicon". I have decided to post here because I am sure that I'm going to find at least a few like-minded folk here. I qualify what I say by noting that I am a very socially conservative, Evangelical Christian. Most of these kinds of forums are fairly unfriendly to conservatives and especially Christians. I have written my own blog...www.outofthepidgeon-hole.blogspot.com Most of the topics are centered around theology, and how Evangelicals are "required" to support errant concepts both in the secular, political arena and in theology. This is the case with Peak Oil. Most conservatives are sipping Jonestown koolaid with a Pollyanna view of the coming resource apocalypse.
I am curious what the range of concern here is. We are a lower middle class family. ( I have been unemployed for 9 months) We are renters. Many of the preparations needed to be made for what Kunstler called "the Long Emergency" are not easily made by folks that are just trying to get by. Especially if those folks are making contientious food choices; organics, etc. , which are significantly more expensive. We have purchased metal with the assurance that it will softland us when the paper tiger that is the stock market collapses from high food and oil prices. This will be in early to mid September by our best guess.
You see, we have been looking at Peak Oil as only one facet of a much larger problem, culturally and theologically. Of course, I won't trouble people with my eschatological premises. Those interested may Email me or check out my Blog. I will point out that we are preparing for a social armageddon of the magnitude of the fall of Rome. That initiated the Dark Ages. The world I envision will be overpopulated with undereducated, underprepared demographics that will begin to migrate to more hospital climates and find they are not welcome. At the same time, our Orwellian government will be initiating all of the well prepared executive orders that center around population management and control. This, of course, will include the infamous Rex84 program.
I chose to post now, after all these years, to share a trend that is unique to where I live, here on the border with Canada where the 2010 Winter Olympics will be. A steady increase in Homeland Security and military style aircraft have been grid flying Whatrcom County over the last year. Most recently by C-130s with listening appartus as well as Homeland Security Blackhawk helicopters. Like birthpains drawing closer together, the government has a clear idea of when the House of Cards is going to collapse. I would be interested in hearing the groups opinion. God Bless us all.

I'd say take no action - the big Guy's got your back. _________________ Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.

Welcome. Check out the thread Christian Pespectives on Peak Oil in the Psychology forum. There are other Christians there if the coyotes start knawing at your heel bone.
