How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?
I think this proves one thing quite clearly: there is a population problem. The problem is that we have too many rich old people on the planet (specifically elites). I say Phillip and Ted Turner go first, what say the rest of you?

I couldn't open the link so I am not sure what it says.
Without the "elites" modern day society would not exist. They didn't get rich because they invented money. They got rich because they provided a service that the US and/or world needed and was willing pay a lot of money for.
I am happy for them.

I didn't realize that that the Royal Family had so many ties to the Nazis!
I have seen a lot of newsreels and stories about the Duke of Windsor who gave up his throne, who was quite enamoured of Hitler. _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto

Actually those few who fall into that category have largely leveraged the money that one of their ancestors made doing legitimate (providing something someone wanted) work for their own benefit simply to make more money and damn the consequences to society, environment and anyone else as long as they get richer still. Takes money to make money as it were. In the case of English "monarchy" they simply stole it just like their thieving power hungry ancestors.

It is hard to be impressed with elites. Most of them aren't "self-made". Most just had the good fortune to be born to rich people in the first place (particularly in the case of the royals).
Generally speaking, a live and let live attitude is a healthier one. I only vote the elites go first, because, frankly, I think they have as much right to be here as anyone else up to the moment they start advocating eugenics and murder by proxy.

Ok I was able to open the link and took a look.
I am not trying to pick a fight but how does Ted Turner come into play? He was self-made if I am not mistaken and values conservation of nature. He is one of the largest private landowners in the US which helps stops the massive subdivision and developement of large ranches.

No, I don't want to pick one either. I'm just shooting my mouth off a bit. I saw a clip of Ted Turner saying we're all going to be eating each other by 2030. I just kind of threw him in there because he kind of annoys me with the things he says. I know that's not really fair.
Honestly, I think if we (people in general) were willing to share, act humanely, and not horde things we'd be just fine. I don't like the "one child policy" people. I don't think ANY government should have that much authority.
Each to their own, but the quotes from Phillip (which are only loosely related to my little tangent here) really chafe my arse.

Pfft. They made money the old fashioned way. They inherited it.

That's a very popular position here at po.com. Inevitable barbarism and cannibalism.
Zombie Hordes!
I know, but there is just something about Mr. More-money-than-God talking about it as though deeply worried. If it were to happen, you know he'd be off in some ivory tower, surrounded by land and well-fed body guards.
Meanwhile, I'm SOL. So, chalk it up to sour grapes.

If you want to say the sins of the father should pass to the son... The reason you and everyone else's genes have survived through the aeons to this day owes itself to some morally questionable behavior somewhere in your family tree. They don't call it survival of the fittest for nothing.

Yep. Too bad the rest of us suckers didn't have the good taste to be born to wealthier folks. Shame on us
or they stole it, or acquired it through devious means. Get a load of this. It's one thing to steal candy from a baby, but what about manipulating food right out of the entire family's pockets, when they're starving, and attaching interest to what you will steal in the future?
