I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

It seems in the past few months, the whole aura of doom is settling upon America. Even institutions are going into a funk, like te Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, which posed the question of America going bankrupt. Is that the kind of thing these men are getting paid big salaries and likely big pensions too should be doing? I see all this stuff about the Social Security system going belly up. Thinking about that too long will cause people to start squirreling away every free dollar they have and just by itself, sink the economy. Also, as I have some money in it, I don't think that way.
I once heard Frank Stronach, the famous industrialist, speak and he stated that to be successful, one must first be optimistic. He even mentioned that is downfall of many smart people is that they do not harness their intelligence and channel it in the right directions, but start dwelling on the negative and the trivial. Some real wisdom from a man who has no college diploma but started working with this hands, and his mind, as a machinist.
Let's stop the negativity. I think its high time President Bush did an FDR manouver, and had a good fireside chat with Americans and extolled the power of America and its resilience. Its time, for once, for him to become the "uniter "he promised he would be. To stress the economic power that it still has, and its ever present gift of ingenuity and hard work to make great things happen. Look how America transformed itself in a two year back at the start of World War II. And economic miracle. Imagine shipyards pushing out a naval ship a week and an aircraft plant one bomber pr hour. Amazing stuff.
I even see things written, within America, that degrade Americans, knocking the education system, and the like. These are just further sources of depression and should be avoided.
Maybe I see this about my former country better being outside its borders. I sense its not just the economy but the American spirit itself that is going into a depression of sorts.
Its time to get positive.

Are you kidding?
Every time Bush opens his mouth on television, the stock markets tank.
Bush giving a fireside chat? That would be like giving a chimp a canister of gasoline, then putting him beside a roaring fire while he fondled treasury bills.

You would rather have a president tell you a complete load of crap rather than the obvious truth. Hmm. Perhaps something like "Don't worry about this economy thing, it will work itself out, just keep spending money of useless crap from china." is what your after.
Please the time has long passed for biased optimism. _________________ This story will be told for generations!

No, I think it is more like pull americans together... into detention camps. That way we can see the production of those naval ships and bombers at affordable rates.
I agree, at some time we need to start being positive. ....that is when the bottom is hit and the only way is up.
In other words not quite yet.
Except uranium.....everyone seems very bearish uranium and uranium stocks. Can't help but wonder if we have bottom there.
And electricity will be needed for the spotlights and the electrical fences...
OK, sorry for the negative tone.
I just happen to think it will take a bit more than an inspiring president and elbow grease from the blue collar force to get things on the right keel again. _________________ It's not a bailout, it's a buy-in" - Nancy Pelosi

There's a problem:
Bush is a piece of crap, and at least half the country hates his stinkin guts.

Yes, they are the same people who engineered the situation and are preparing the masses. Seeing as how you have a Canada tag, the country got sucked into the scam back in the early 70's.
To better prepare yourself for the future I would strongly recommend acquiring knowledge on how this world really operates and avoid mainstream media.
knowing how to grow some vegetables will serve you much better than a fireside chat with Bush, the man is a psychopath like many in positions of power today unfortunately.
Inherited and acquired psychological disorders and ignorance of their existence and nature are the primal causes of evil. The magic number of 6% seems to represent the number of humans who either carry the genes responsible for biological evil or who acquire such disorders in the course of their lifetime. This small percent is responsible for the vast majority of human misery and crime, and for infecting others with their flawed view of the world.

My goal in life is to spit on Bush's forgotten grave.
Denny, wake up! BushCo. represents, and works for, ONLY the rich (the rich in general, the oil industry in particular). His every move for the past 7-plus years has been absolutely and rigidly consistent with that principle. He has no interest whatever in "uniting" this country.
In any event, the US is finished, and all things show it. _________________ "Actually, humans died out long ago."

He tried to rally everyone to go shopping and you guys are letting him down!
Seriously, Bush has no credibility. America needs some leadership but it won't come from Bush. Also, I think things will have to get quite a bit moe dire before most people accept the type of program that is needed, assuming there is a leader that proposes it.

Even for someone called "Cynus" I've become more cynical than ever. I just feel a thousand cracks opening up under us here in America, everybody dislikes everyone else. If there's an economic crash I see viscious and even physical conflict based on religion, geography, race, culture, class as far more likely than the country coming together. Who could bring it together? None of the presidential candidates which each just represent one of the above competing factions. There's just so much repressed anger that is palapble in the air. _________________ One of these now am I too, a fugitive from the gods and a wanderer, at the mercy of raging Strife.

It would be extremely difficult for Bush to pull the country together when he lives in a fantasy world.
Every statement that comes out of his mouth is unbelievable-in every sense of the word.
Bush will go down in history as not only the worst President of the US, but, also as the most despised man on the planet. And Cheney (where is he hiding now?) will be close behind. _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto

The American people will need to be told the truth, allowed some
time to digest it to the extent it is possible, and then might be open
to receive the inspirational message and leadership from someone who has not lied to them or is the latest spokesperson of the Washington political, or Manhattan financial, power brothels.
I am certain our current leadership could say all the words but
they simply could not make this message stick to anyone's head.
We aren't going to slogan and patch our way clear this time,
we are going to have to seriously remodel, and it is going to
be very good for us. It is going to be rough as a cob for the
foreseeable future.
