For a minute there I thought I had to get off my couch, when all the while the fact is we don't have to do anything much but keep things afloat for just a few decades more! In fact, we'd best shut up about PO, because if our offspring finds out we knew about it all along, they'll turn and wring our necks come 2036!

EE,
I could do this sometime in September, probably.
In the next couple weeks I will be gone several days
at a time, so it would probably be better to wait until
next month.

Biography
Dale Allen Pfeiffer was born in Michigan in 1958. After graduating high school, he traveled extensively throughout North America, by van, thumb and bicycle. Over the next couple decades, he wrote several novels, a volume of poetry and many short stories. During the 1990s, he took degrees in Geology, Earth Science and Mathematics, graduating with honors. He has done field work in the Rocky Mountains, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and in Ontario, Canada around the Lake Superior shore. He specialized in Orogenic and Precambrian structural geology.
In the 1990s, he also began exploring and writing about socioeconomic issues. He favored theories espousing a bottom up political structure, egalitarian economics, and direct democracy. He was a proud member of the IWW, and he took an active role in the effort to free Leonard Peltier. In 1999, he married Elizabeth Anne Lovan.
In 2002, his daughter, Candace, came to live with them, completing their family. After 9-11, he realized that peak oil was playing a major role in the events of this young century. He began writing for FTW in December of 2001. His magnum opus, Giants in Their Steps, a novel, and the product of 20 years of work was published in December, 2003. He is scheduled to release several more books in the spring of 2004, including an anthology of his geopolitical writings for FTW. The only historicaly direct democracy I am aware of occured in Ancient Athens. It was built on the back of slaves, and the subjugation of the females.
When , or if, Peak oil occures in our lifetimes; How do you propose we establish a more open democracy (or Republic if it stands)? Is it likely, that a time of short supplies in energy, and an exess of human labor, will turn into an age of freedom? Or is it more likely a return to human slavery in an open and legal manner?
Also, the immediate near term prospects for countries on the verge of starvation (such as Afghanistan and India) do not appear promising in a "post peak" world.
How would one help such regions when the USA may be forced to hord it's own grain production for itself? Is their a viable macro and micro-nutrient alternative to cereal grains?
Which region or Countries would you beleive will "come out on top" 50 years post peak?
Thank you for taking the time to reply. _________________ Eickhorn Daggers!
