I'm kind of a big nerd when it comes to listening to the radio. I only listen to NPR. Yesterday on Science Friday they had a piece that was basically on tin foil and conspiracy theories.
Being that I myself subscribe to a number of conspiracy theories and they tend to pop up on this site I thought I would post the link to the story and get some feed back.
The main thrust of the story seems to be that when under stress we tend to connect dots that shouldn't be connected.
My reply: Just because your not paranoid doesn't mean they aren't watching you.

Look on the left hand side of the page to click and listen to the full piece. _________________ "With man gone will there be hope for gorilla? With gorilla gone will there be hope for man?" --Ishmael by D. Quinn |

I never liked NPR. I always considered them to be liberal/socialist morons.
The other day, I caught some NPR in the car.
They were calling the bailout bill the "rescue package."

Hi biofuel13,
I heard that segment too. I am all about the conspiracy theory and consider myself to be a well-balanced happy person who does not feel an overwhelming lack of control over my life. Nor do I feel overly stressed-except when thinking about the crazy political climate and decisions our government makes.
The day 9-1-1 happened I said to my husband, I believe our government is complicit in this horrendous act. Several independent sources have since satisfied this position. Just because they are not universally considered true does not mean it is not so. (I didn't read 1984 until after 9-1-1).
The study conducted and reported in Science Friday had a narrow focus and I did not find the conclusions to be compelling.
I'll continue to trust my intuition and question all that is put before me using reasoning that I hope will not put me in a place of danger-emotionally or physically.

I agree. I was also left wondering who funded this study. Especially due to the results.
Oh oh there I go trying to connect dots again! _________________ "With man gone will there be hope for gorilla? With gorilla gone will there be hope for man?" --Ishmael by D. Quinn |

| Listened to the piece on NPR. Immediately thought of the 911ers, how pathetic their lives must be. |

Wow, not by my standards! They seem pretty middle of the road compared to say, AirAmerica! _________________ "...powerdown so soft and fluffy you'll think you're living in a pillow." - jboogy |

On the one hand. On the right, there's everything else on the airwaves. _________________ Sarah Palin: Because what we really need right now is another inexperienced, inarticulate, personable, fundamentalist governor of an oil-dependent state for president. |

Humans are hard wired to make connections even when there are no connections that should be made. Look around at the "ghost photos" that have a bunch of amorphous shadows that nearly every human being wants to turn into a face.
We are built to make images out of nothing and words out of random sounds.
That does not mean that there are no conspiracies, only that one should be careful in assessing them. _________________ “In the Soviet Union, capitalism triumphed over communism. In this country, capitalism triumphed over democracy.”

You all need to get out of this cult and look at your own real spaces.
Listen to some music, get laid (if all the requirements are lifted), make art, write a book, plant a tree, listen to some friends, talk to your loved ones, sleep, meditate, contemplate, look at your own reflection, look at the stars, eat fresh organic food, plant a plant, get off the computer for a whole week ... anything, to see all the complete picture... not just a cult of death. _________________ http://bodinagamin.wordpress.com

Anagami,
If I hadn't been totally grounded in my personal and spiritual life for the decade before I had learned about PO this would have been really stressful. As it is, it was a growth experience to prepare for reality of a big train wreckcoming my way.
Love and deep spirituality, friendship, competitive work situation, sport and fitness, great food, beautiful vacation all add to life. Doomerism is an antidote to the ever present lie of the modern that we are here for hedonist consumerism and then dead and gone. We have to get rooted in our spirituality and community. Read Carolyn Baker and Sharon Astyk. Real life is not a doomer porn extravaganza or a TOD technical orgie of oilproidcution stats. _________________ "The horror, the horror" |

It's interesting how we split into red and blue people. I feel exactly the same way about right wing talk radio. I find myself getting angry just listening to Savage and Limbaugh. _________________ Deep in the mud and slime of things, even there, something sings. |
