How then, do we move backwards? How does a society, with most of the people having no clue of future events, move from being dependent on a vast and intertwined network of goods and services produced by the indigenous people of whereever, to a local resource and renewable energy based society, and do so in the timeframe available (20-30 years using the most liberal extimates, 10-20 with resonable estimates, 5-10 with worst case scenarios), all the while prices on everything increasing, world politics getting more militaristic, governments continuously reducing civil liberties, shortages of goods on the market and weather patterns resembling bad Hollywood movies?
Water authorities and other government agencies scattered throughout the state, including here in sprawling Riverside County, east of Los Angeles, have begun denying, delaying or challenging authorization for dozens of housing tracts and other developments under a state law that requires a 20-year water supply as a condition for building.

First of all I don't think I have had the opportunity to say, "welcome."
Noticing your interest in the issue of drought and water I just though I would mention that we started discussing the lake lanier issue last summer and that thread is here and that this spring we broadened the issue to include all issues of potable water and that thread is over here.
We would love to have your input as we continue to discuss these issues.

So when do we get the apology on behalf of Malthus and the others whose common sense told them there was such a thing as 'Limits to Growth?'

Good for you California. Next someone will propose changing the law so that you only need 5 years of water guaranteed. Then the 50 year drought will come in and push the price of water up to the price of the nergy it takes to get it out of the ground. Scaricty has a way of limiting our options.

After that . . . ? _________________ Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.
