That is a very short, but interesting article. Iran replaces dollar. Who is buying this oil? Is this the beginning of the oil bourse? Verry interesting...

If they find enough direct buyers, there is no immediate need for any oilbourse.
Should they however want to set up the OB to further expand Euro based trading in the region, they already have some trading partners to start with. Could be a good way of building credibility for the OB before opening.

Iranian president again says Israel will soon be wipe out of existence.

Yahoo News

Just when it seems a war with Iran can be avoided, this nut starts spouting off again about wiping Israel out. Its really so stupid its unbelievable. I guess he feels emboldened with the quagmire the US is in, but a wounded animal is dangerous. I would have hoped he would at least be smart enough just to watch and rejoice in the US troubles, political and economic, but I guess that's not enough. However, it may not just be bold talk; I'm starting to think this guy means this and is wanting to bring about the "end" just as all the right wing conservative US nuts say he is trying to do.

Last time, his widely-reported comments about wiping Israel out turned out to be mistranslated (if you're generous) or manufactured by the media (if you're not). Have they been more careful this time around?

I'm linking here a topic started by Zardoz which includes other news sources confirming a US military build up in the Gulf, to begin by early January. The article linked by Zardoz has the US confirming the build up to counter Iran.

Quote:
The U.S. Central Command is aggressively planning a naval buildup in the Persian Gulf, including the addition of a second aircraft carrier, in response to a series of aggressive actions by Iran, U.S. military officials told NBC News on Tuesday.

Quote:
The officials pointed to Iran's interference in Iraq — including its support for Shiite militants and shipments of improvised explosive devices into the country — recent military naval exercises in the Gulf, and its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Quote:
On Monday, the Bush administration said Iran was making headway in building nuclear weapons as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice tried to iron out differences with Russia over a U.N. resolution designed to stop the program with economic sanctions.

De ja vu to December 02.

Wait, I thought the Iwo Jima, Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan were already in-theatre. That would bring the total to 4 carrier groups, not 2.

Now, the Reagan has been there for quite some time, so it's possible they rotated out, but the Iwo Jima only got there on October 17, and the Eisenhower on October 24. I don't recall a carrier group ever being rotated out after less than 6 months.

Something doesn't add up. Does anyone know which group is supposed to be going?

It's in drydock on PIA+D. It will be replacing the Kitty Hawk next year on forward deployment.
