Today, the DOD announced its ordering 40K more soldiers to Iraq as part of routine troop deployments. When is the last time the DOD made routine troop rotations so public? Especially in such large numbers? Like never in the three years I've been following. Maybe routine troop deployments are simply getting more press in light of the Democrats taking over, but the US has been rotating forces for 3 years now and never made a big deal out of it before.

Bush: I would understand if Israel chose to attack Iran
The United States lacks sufficient intelligence on Iran's nuclear facilities at this time, which prevents it from initiating a military strike against them, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has told European politicians and diplomats with whom she has recently met.
......Bush also said that if such an attack were to take place, he would understand it....

Very interesting article. Sounds like the old oil order is changing. It really shows how vulnerable we are in the West. We have an achilles heel, and it's oily.

CIA: No Evidence for Iranian Nuclear Weapons Program - White House "Hostile" to Reality-Based Report
Quote: According to Seymour Hersh's latest New Yorker shocker, the CIA has found no evidence of a secret Iranian nuclear weapons program. The White House, given a draft assessment in the fall, has been "hostile" to the agency's report.

It just cracks me up that the media reports all this BS at face value! Assuming Amadinajad (sp no insult intended) wishes to build a nuke without setting off any red flags the absolute best way to get away with it is to build civilian nuclear power plants, reprocess the spent fuel and make sure the IAEA account for every gram of Uranium and Plutonium.
Then when they are ready pull out their Np-237 weapon and say Gotcha....Np-237 is not a special nuclear material under IAEA rules. It is also easily seperated from other actinides because it is chemically disparate from the other metals. You get 500 grams per ton of spent fuel, a regular LWR therefore produces about 13 KG per operating year, enough for one or more implosion core weapons.
But what the hell, everything is sweetness and light right?

This article tell more to me about how the US runs the world than anything else. Though, isn't there a historical correllation between an upcoming invation and shutting down bank links?

I'm at the point where I don't know what anything means anymore. This can't be good. The Chinese had a good paper out several years ago about "warfare" and clearly stated that modern warfare includes everything from currency valuations, economics, etc, that actual fighting is the last option. So, most of us would probably agree that these banking actions are a form of economic warfare against Iran. As Michael Klare said, these are the resource wars.

This is interesting. We only hear about how we are going to talk to Iran and Syria and have a heart to heart about the problems in Iraq. I didn't know that we were using this kind of economic sanction tactic as well. What does it mean? I heard that Cheney met with the Saudis to reassure them that we weren't pulling out of Iraq. They were afraid that they might have a conflict with Iran if we did. Hard to tell what will happen now. I thought that we were playing nice with Iran now. Maybe not.

i don't know what to make of this
perhaps nothing
Quote: Several of the UK's largest banks fear they could face the full legislative wrath of the US government unless they bow to Washington's pressure to shut their operations in Iran.
It is believed that officials in President George Bush's administration have also put pressure on banks with operations in the US, including RBS, HSBC and Barclays, to stop acting on behalf of UK business customers in Iran. Barclays, it is thought, has already told its corporate clients that it will not accept deposits from transactions originating in Iran.
etc......

Umm...probably not much. Curious George is pissed that he can't invade Iran, so he's looking for a dog to kick.
