What's with this image? I would have thought it was just something created for the article, but it appears to say "US Army (or Navy?) official poster" in the corner.

ran will donate $50m (£28m) to help fund the Palestinian Authority, after the withdrawal of aid from the West, the Iranian government has announced.
The US and EU cut funding after Hamas - which they consider a terrorist group - won Palestinian elections in January.
Iran's pledge followed a visit from top Hamas official Khaled Meshaal, after the group appealed to Muslim nations to help make up the shortfall.
On Saturday Russia said it would also grant financial aid.
Mr Meshaal, at a fundraising event in the Iranian capital, Tehran, said the Palestinian administration was $1.7bn in debt.
He said a further $170m a month was needed to run the administration, out of which $115m went to paying salaries.
The EU gives about 500m euros ($600m) a year to the Palestinian Authority, but said last week that aid would be suspended.
Hamas has refused EU demands to recognise Israel and renounce violence.
The US Treasury this week further tightened the screws on Palestinian cash by banning American nationals from doing business with the Hamas-led authority.

Interestingly, when asked if the US would use nuclear weapons against Iran, Bush said all options are on the table, but then said the US is seeking a diplomatic solution.
Quote: Asked if options included planning for a nuclear strike, Bush replied: "All options are on the table. We want to solve this issue diplomatically and we're working hard to do so."
This at least gives credibility to the Hersh article that the US was considering using tactical nuclear weapons on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Russia to go ahead and sell Iran air defense weapons. Russia News
This is interesting to me, because my personal belief is that any time-table for American strike against Iran has more to do with the US striking while it still has the element of surprise and military supremacy more than it has to do with how soon the Iranians can produce a nuclear bomb - which may be years away. If the US/Israel want to keep the military option open, they have to strike while they have military supremacy which they lose more and more of everyday. If they wait too long, the military option is no longer viable for purely military reasons, regardless of all the economic/political fallout that may occur.

Quote: "It goes without saying that the United States believes that, in order to be credible, the UN Security Council, of course, has to act,"
"It cannot have its word and its will simply ignored by a [UN] member state," she said.
Speaking at the same meeting, Philippe Douste-Blazy, the French foreign minister, told reporters that France backed "a rapid and firm signal" to Tehran if it continued to ramp up its nuclear activities.

IAEA says Iran in defiance, that Iran may have used plutonium from undisclosed sources, US Ambassador Bolton (PNAC member and known to be very hostile to Iran) says UN Security Council should pass a Chapter 7 resolution which authorizes military force, Rice says UN has to take action to remain credible, French seem to be siding with US on a possible Chapter 7 resolution.

As people were saying back when Bolton was nominated in the first place, his whole purpose for being there is to force the UN to vote on Iran, then declare the body obsolete if they don't vote the way the US wants. There's a reason Bush was so adamant about getting him through.

China says it will not support a Chapter 7 resolution with the UN Security Council, so, I anticipate that Bolton will say the UN has lost credibility.

US says wants UN Security Council to take action soon and if Iran continues its disregard, the US will act with or without the UN.
Yahoo News
Quote: Iran will be given a "short time" to comply, after which Western powers would consider targeted sanctions against individuals and possible restrictions on trade, Bolton said.
"They have to comply or the Security Council is prepared to take other steps," he said.
If that fails, Bolton said action could be taken "within or without the Security Council."

This is the type of nuclear proliferation that the US and many other countries are opposed to.
