Peak Oil Deniers Remain Oblivious

Regardless of how you feel about opening up ANWR, do you honestly believe it’s the solution to the peak oil crisis?

Here are the facts….

Peak oil is a global event. It’s happening on a globe where approximately 85,000,000 (85 million) barrels of oil are consumed each day. Annually, that works out to over 31,000,000,000 (31 billion) barrels.

The United States consumes 19,500,000 (19.5 million) barrels per day or 7,117,500,000 (7.12 billion) barrels per year.

The problem is math. People just won’t do it. Breaking it down to figures like 7 billion barrels a year helps a lot though. That way, the next time some dimwitted reporter breathlessly reports a 1 billion barrel find, it gets put in perspective.

The problem is too big to ignore…unfortunately, that’s the way we treat big problems.

Just consider the looming subprime threat that ‘wack jobs’ were warning about in 2006-2008. Oops, that one almost destroyed the financial system.
