The 100 mile economy

Most of what we buy comes from a long way away.

What will become of us if something interferes with our dependence on the world market for our basic needs (food and clothing, for instance)?

Perhaps I’m weird, but I often stand in a grocery store, or low price department store, or clothing shop, and wonder just that.

What might our lives be like if oil prices surge back up, and go beyond, say, $200 a barrel?

What could the world economy – and our local economy – look like if we get to a point where fuel is not affordable?
