Pakistan: Petrol, CNG stations owners observe complete strike

LAHORE: Owners of filling stations observed a complete strike in the provincial metropolis on Friday to condemn brutal killing of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Petrol pumps and CNG stations were giving a deserted look throughout the day. Covered with tents, these filling stations were not selling petrol, diesel, gas and other oil products. However, taking advantage of the situation, employees of some of the filling stations sold a litre plastic bottle of petrol for Rs 100. Private petrol shops also sold petrol at same rates.

Due to strike by filling stations, people faced great hardships. They had to visit petrol pumps and CNG stations one after one in search of petrol and gas but their efforts went in vein due to which they faced difficulties to travel to get the utilities and the hospitals. It may be mentioned here that one of the reasons behind keeping filling stations closed was fear factor prevailing in the city following unmerciful assassination of Benazir. A petrol pump owner at Scheme Morr told The Post that he kept his station closed as he was apprehending attack by the mob.

An employee of CNG pump situated at Lawrence road Ahmed Hassan told The Post that the owner of the CNG pump has ordered to close the CNG pump to avoid any disaster, fire or possible distortion by the troublemakers. When asked when it will be opened he replied that it depends upon the law and order situation in the city.
