Oil shocks will hit region hard

General Ideas

Fuel prices are rising. More oil shocks have been predicted, and we remain unready to face a new age that is approaching rapidly.

Some may not have heard of “peak oil”. If so, I suggest Googling it up.

Alerts: This year Exxon Mobil has warned us to prepare for demand-driven oil shocks. Last year, Saudi Arabia’s energy minister Khalid A. Al-Falih warned us to expect an oil supply shortage by 2020.

When it hits, our region will be hard hit. We still lack a functioning rail link or coastal shipping facilities to offset any road transport problems.

Admittedly, the world is moving on to electric cars and bicycles, but heavy transport remains almost totally reliant on fossil fuels.

Oil unavailability or un-affordability will drive us to alternative energy, but before long it will be alternative everything.

Petroleum is part of nearly everything, even jobs.

Peak oil and its impacts have been delayed by shale oil and new drilling technologies such as fracking and horizontal drilling, along with deep sea and oil sand extraction, keeping us addicted to oil that much longer.

With millions of the world’s people homeless, lacking adequate food and clean water, ongoing fossil-fuel-use habits are now morally unacceptable.

The consequences of continuing as we do now are likely to be irreversible.

Using even 20 percent of the known, extractable fossil fuel reserves would jeopardise the basic necessities of human life.

The madness of it all.

Thank God we have a Government that sees the futility of searching for more of this product that threatens our future.

I want a world for our kids and grandkids. What about you?

In the US we have an electorate that refuses to pay anything meaningful re a CO2 tax to greatly financially incentivize the transition from pure ICE cars toward PHEV’s and ICE’s. And solar, wind, geothermal, and batteries to deal with intermittency.

    Politicians want to be elected/re-elected.

The US is worse than Europe, but not that much worse. Look how pitiful the Paris Climate Accords really are — essentially just a giant can kick to delay menaingful action for a few decades, re AGW.

Or is the author going to pretend that if only we had a Dem Potus in the US, all would be completely different? Don’t make me laugh.

The sad thing is, PHEV’s are already viable with gasoline likely to be $3 plus over the next decade. And getting 40 to 50 MPG and 20 to 50ish miles of pure EV range burns a HELL of a lot less gasoline than a traditional ICE getting more like 20 in the city and 30ish on the highway for every mile driven.

But a PHEV like the Honda Clarity has a few minor performance drawbacks compared to the similarly sized (after the federal tax credit) and priced Honda Accord ICE or Hybrid. So we can’t have THAT.

And so it goes. People won’t be willing to act until the AGW problems are blatantly obvious to all — and then it will be FAR too late to deal with.

But by all means, play politics instead of blaming the voters. Because that accomplishes so much. /s

Citizens of the world have seen nothing yet. Gasoline, diesel and other oil derive products are used for everything.

Everything you buy these days was transported by a truck using diesel. Raising fuel prices will lead to raising prices of everything.

I have my own personal price index, six small donuts in a plastic case.

2017: donuts went from 1.00$ to 1.25$ within a year, 25% price increase
2018: donuts went from 1.25& to 1.33, 6% prices increase.

Stagflation is already here, people are too stupid to see the early signs of peak oil.

Bank are leading money to almost anyone in order to hide increasing stagflation.

Yes, people you are lucky enough to be alive and watching the end of the human race.

‘Peak Oil’ and the German Government

Military Study Warns of a Potentially Drastic Oil Crisis

The team of authors, led by Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Will, uses sometimes-dramatic language to depict the consequences of an irreversible depletion of raw materials. It warns of shifts in the global balance of power, of the formation of new relationships based on interdependency, of a decline in importance of the western industrial nations, of the “total collapse of the markets” and of serious political and economic crises.

The study, whose authenticity was confirmed to SPIEGEL ONLINE by sources in government circles, was not meant for publication.

The world should be thankful a continent is taking the lead in attempting an energy transition. That said this is still a long shot IMO and success is going to be accompanied by as many failures. Until behavior changes this attempt at transition may not have what it takes. This is as much about technology and engineering as behavior and education. On the behavior side this appears to be about localism, seasonality, and intermittency. This is in regards to more than just energy it includes food/water, shelter, and transport. Bad behaviors and unsustainable discretionary activities will need to be eliminated. The problem is this is not the motus of the people. People want more of the same with different energy that they think is clean and unlimited. They want more affluence and curiously believe we will have less work and more comforts. We are going to be more efficient and smarter the thinking is. The problem is no one want to sacrifice to get there. None of this adds up when one does the math and the science. Then there is the rest of the 6BIL on the planet that want a living well too. We will not all be able to live this energy transition.

Politically speaking, tribal nationalism always insists that its own people is surrounded by “a world of enemies”, “one against all”, that a fundamental difference exists between this people and all others. It claims its people to be unique, individual, incompatible with all others, and denies theoretically the very possibility of a common mankind long before it is used to destroy the humanity of man..

Lets look at Europe’s economic trends..Instead just cherry picking a few years..So we can have a broad view..

Europe GDP per capita 1969 (6.9%)

Europe GDP per capita 1988 (3.6%)

Europe GDP per capita 2017 (1.4%)

Within a decade Europe’s growth will be zero..And that will cause an economic collapse..
