Gladiator War

We’re chemical machines, that have been built over 4 billion years, and we’ve been tested in what can be called quite accurately a ‘Gladiator War’; where the machines went into the battle and if you won your DNA replicated, and that’s all it was was a war. And as time evolved the war became more complex. As the organisms evolved they get more and more elaborate tools.
[…]
Our intelligence only exists because it was a scheming tool, because it made us better at stealing star energy from other organisms. That’s the only reason why it exists. And it still remains its only function.

We are all here for just a little while. Love your family. We may at some point be forced to make some hard choices about who we can and cannot save. Hell, we may not even be able to save ourselves. Still there is no reason to abandon our humanity. When the dust settles and it will settle and if you are still standing, you will thank yourself if you helped when you could help and refrained from harming when no harm was necessary.

That’s a wonderful philosophy for our (end) times Cloud9! It’s time for all of ask to ask : What kind of creatures are we and what will be our legacy?

We can expand our conscientiousness, beyond the four “F’s” (fight, flight, food and f***) of the lizard brain. How we choose to live can lead to how we choose to die, if we are lucky in our choices made. This video is speaking in a defeatist and depressing tone, I for one do not wish to ascribe to.

It’s humans who are the most accursed. Other animals will suffer greatly at times, but as far as anyone can tell, only naked apes are afflicted with consciousness. No gazelle lays awake at night reliving that near miss with that lion who chased him three months ago. The chase happens, his amygdala goes into hyper drive and squirts out a bunch of adrenaline and shit, but after the chase he goes back to normal living and does not think about it. Your curse is your mind and that non stop chatter from birth to death. All the booze and drugs and material goodies and sex and status bumps can’t sooth that perpetual motion machine – only death can and that’s the #1 fear and curse for apes. Somewhere around 8 years old we come to realize that some day, and it could be any day, we gonna die. Thus religion and heaven and culture and patriotism and politics the rest of the shit we make up. Like the man said – we’re a can of SPAM without the can.

this understanding of ourselves as very complex robots designed by our genes in order to battle for them for replication and thus survival was an extremely amazing discovery. I think I first read about it in the God Delusion, by Richard Dawkins, but i’m not sure.

but either way, this understanding has limitations. take an idea originating largely from the very same author:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memetics

so the question remains, would you rather survive by pumping out another robot because its your biological destiny, or would you rather survive by your ideas and in the memories of those closest to you.

Certainly some people should have children (unless you believe humans are incapable of any behavior beyond parasite or planet-killing virus).

But among some of my social circles, the child to middle-aged adult ratio is very small. We could have a lot more godfathers/mothers auntie/uncle situations and perhaps fewer direct parents.

Positive self reinforcing feedback loops ramping up like crazy. Won’t be long now untill all the little apes realize just how meaningless it all is.

2 C Coming On Faster Than We Feared — Atmospheric Methane Spikes to Record 3096 Parts Per Billion

“We know that burning fossil fuels, that the activity of mining coal, fracking for gas, and drilling for oil all result in dangerous greenhouse gas emissions. We know that the vast majority of these warming gasses are coming from fossil fuel based sources. We know that, now, the burning and mining and fracking and drilling have pushed atmospheric CO2 above 405 parts per million and the global concentration of all CO2 equivalent gasses to an amazing 485 parts per million CO2e (levels not seen in at least 15 million years). And we know that the heat re-radiated by these gasses has warmed the world by about 1 C above 1880s levels — forcing weather patterns to change, seas to rise, ocean health to decline, and setting off a wave of die offs in the animal world while increasing the near-term risk of hunger, spreading tropical disease, and mass displacement in the human world.”
