Bought remote cheap norcal coastal real-estate in 1998 before AGW (it was global warming then). That investment has been real cool man :) (get it? cool.) People want to be here now because it is sunny and 65 degrees in mid July. They more and more are scared of AGW (I was also) and my area keeps looking better.

doom has worked for me

Sure, I bought a number of gold coins between 400 and 800. Stopped buying at that point, which proved to be a good idea. I've also kept funding retirement accounts and the like and have done much, much better than if I'd kept putting money into gold.

Remember that "peak oil" thing that was supposed to happen around, like, 2008? Or 2011? Or whenever it was?

Data is through March. Just a hair under 80 million barrels/day!

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls may I have your attention!

Due to an upward revision for March, and a new figure for April, we have now exceeded 80 million barrels/day for two months in a row.

80.343 million barrels/day in April sets YET ANOTHER new world oil production record!

We seem to have broken out of the infamous "bumpy plateau" that we entered around 2005 from around 2012 onward. We'll see how long that lasts. Definitely not something peakers expected. It was going to hold on the plateau and then only go down from there.

It appears that we might be peaking now. We'll know more in about 6 months or so...

ennui - I suppose it depends on how one defines a bump on the plateau. Looking at the global curve from 1900 to 2015 recent bump doesn't appear to be a great variation from what we've seen the last 10+ years. And then one can mentally factor in that much of the new come came from increasing rates on existing conventional reservoirs combined with the uptick from the relatively short lived unconventional reservoirs.

But either way it in the eye of the beholder to a large degree since there is no definition of "plateau".

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. It is WAY past time I updated this thread.

I have a special announcement to make: In November, the world set yet another crude and condensate production record! 8O Another! :?

Source of the data is this US EIA Table right here. You can go check it yourself if you don't believe me!

And here is the pretty picture. This time I made the chart zero-based so you can see the trend completely unbiased, as-is, in its full beauty unaffected by any potential illusions that starting the chart at a higher base might produce. Notice now the steady-as-she-goes climb upward, rather than the choppy picture that zooming in to a narrower vertical range seems to produce.

And BTW, that new production record created in November was 82.228 million barrels/day.

Thank you, and have a nice day. :)

And, just for the amusement value of venturing back into Days of Yore, here is a bump for post #1, page #1, six years ago. Remember the good old days when world oil production was all the way down in the mid-70 million bpd range?
copious.abundance wrote:EIA Table

Crude & Condensate:
July 2008: 74,669.571 bpd
Dec. 2010: 74,795.725 bpd

I mean . . . Is it OK for me to laugh? Do I need to point out how many times someone here told me we were past peak, and that production was about to fall off a permanent cliff? And how many times I was scoffed at and ridiculed because I thought production would reach new highs in the future? I do believe I'm allowed the following:

AHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

But the ETP'ers say this is impossible. Everyone is losing money on every barrel produced. No one can afford to buy this oil. Where are the evil oil companies hiding it? I demand to know the truth.

Can't be. Pstarr, resident expert on...everything really...has told us that peak oil happened a decade ago. Therefore there can be no growth in oil production, as it has been in terminal decline for a decade now.

That's OK, I lived in the South and YALL are a little SLOW down yonder.
Now, if you want my New York version about the numbers, I can provide that there too.Adumn.

I hear you guys , and do feel for it ....but !!
- I never argue with facts , it make my head ache too much
- If the IEA think it's oil and people keep purchasing it as oil , whom am I to argue ?
- Pstarr is not wrong and I agree with him , we possibly , probably have passed the "conventional" crude oil peak
unfortunately , we will not be sure until a decade from now
