Turkey Shoots Down Suspected Russian Drone as Syrian Military Launches Offensive

Turkish jets shot down a drone over the country’s airspace near Syria on Friday. While the drone’s nationality hasn’t been definitively identified, U.S. officials told Reuters that they believe it is Russian.

Turkish jets have already been scrambled twice to intercept incursions by Russian aircraft into Turkish airspace since Russia’s air campaign in Syria began a little more than two weeks ago.

And last week it was a Russian warplane Turkey supposedly shot down. Where's the evidence? Once again we are supposed to take the word of US "Intelligence"....... because they said so? Like when Colin Powell held up a vial of Tang drink crystals as evidence of WMD, that have never been found. Probably because they do not exist; they made it up, just like most things they claim. Six? Do you ever get full from swallowing all that horseshit?

I didn't make any commentary about it, just reported the news, Turkey shot a drone down.

It's either Russian or not Russian, or if it is Russian and they don't admit to it / aren't complaining about it then it's not a problem.

What everyone is a bit worried about right now, are incidents with manned aircraft .

Here's a picture of the drone Turkey shot down:

Image

Two U.S. Defense officials told CNN that according to initial reports, the aircraft was a Russian unmanned vehicle. The United States is continuing to review intelligence on the incident, officials said.

The drone was given three warnings by the Turkish military, but there was no response, Turkish officials said..

Russia dismissed reports that one of its drones had been shot down. All Russian aircraft returned from their combat missions in Syria, and Russian drones continue their aerial reconnaissance and "are functioning as planned," the Russian defense ministry said via Facebook.

Could also be Iranian manufacture. They have been doing some work on drones as well and have troops in theatre.

It makes you wonder why Russia is flying drones over Turkey. Drones have GPS navigation systems, so there's no way the operator didn't know exactly where it was.

Are the Russians looking for potential bombing targets in Turkey? 8O

Are the Russians trying to provoke a confrontation with NATO? 8O

What is Putin up to now? :?:

Maybe somebody should make a Turkey "Russia / Not Russia" map.

Anyhow, Obama's got it all handled. He's on tv right now, he said the US and Russia "have agreed on some channels for avenues of communication."

cog, I never said anything about Turkey not having the capability. When the word comes from the biggest proven liars on the planet, I need irrefutable proof. That picture could be anything. In addition to the lying for propaganda purposes, every bureaucracy is now so completely bloated and full of incompetent carrestits that they are all but ineffectual. Which is why they keep creating new ones and adding more layers. Which only makes things worse. Too many Hollywood movies make the sheep think the so called intelligence community are uber efficient, uber competent super sleuths. Nothing could be further from the truth. One monumental fuck up after another. Privatizing has made it even worse, since at least many former intelligence people were once loyal lifetime officers who believed in and followed the rule of the law as much as possible. Now most of them are retarded neocon followers hoping to kiss ass and get one of those good private MIC corporate jobs ASAP. These are all the same people who have already drawn up plans to drone your gun nut loving ass if you make the slightest attempt to organize and take back your long gone freedoms.

I'm sure they can shoot down a drone.
I'm also sure they have almost zero possibility of identifying who was operating it.

It looked of Russian manufacture; but everyone there has access to Russian manufactured drones... include us most likely.

Also, does it bother anyone else that we use the same word "drone" for these little recon planes and choppers as we do for Predator and Global Hawk, et al? Everytime I see, "Bob shot down a drone"; I think interesting, good hit.. blah blah... then you read carefully, and it turns out they use a $10,000 missile to kill a $400 quad copter. /facepalm

Fuselage looks all wrong for an Orlan-10, looking at the wikipedia page, particularly where it tapers to the tail IMHO. Also the prop is mounted close to the exhausts looking again the wiki photo, with the camera beneath. The broken drone above looks to have the opposite arrangement.

https://www.rt.com/news/318904-russia-d ... key-syria/

The producer of Orlan drones, St. Petersburg Technological Center, issued a statement of their own, which said that “the photos of the allegedly downed drone published on social media with reference to the Turkish General Staff look more like a poorly-staged informational provocation.”

The company stressed that “it’s definitely not an Orlan” present in the pictures being published on social media. It qualified this, saying that “Russia doesn’t make UAVs with such gliders.”

The clowns can't even properly fake an incursion.

"It makes you wonder why Russia is flying drones over Turkey." And this is where Rockman's outstanding imagination comes in: they intentionally sent the drone in to monitor Turkey's acquisition and targeting methodology so they can use such intelligence when they send their manned aircraft into theater.

To be honest: the Rockman wasn't the first to come up with the idea: it goes back as far as WWII. And probably further back: I vaguely recall the Chiricahua Apache used the same approach against the US cavalry. A fellow called Goyathlay. Better known by you palefaces as Geronimo. LOL.
