London Spy Cams Shut Down For G20 Meeting

Unread postby mattduke » Tue 31 Mar 2009, 20:40:00

The security operation at this week's G20 summit was thrown into chaos last night when it emerged that the entire network of central London's wireless CCTV cameras will have to be turned off because of a legal ruling.
The Department for Transport (DfT) has ruled that Westminster council's mobile road cameras - a third of the authority's CCTV network - "do not fully meet the resolution standards required" and must be switched off by midnight tomorrow.
The blackout begins on the eve of the summit, when world leaders arrive in the capital and protesters take to the streets.

I heard this today. That is really ominous. The cameras were also "malfunctioning" on the day of the 7/7 subway bombings in London and almost no images were captured of the bombers. So it makes you wonder what they are up to this time. It may be popcorn time.

Well it's been a while since the Brixton riots! London loves a good riot; the prollies are restless and bored. I'm sure there will be plenty of TV cameras there; a London riot will do more for TV ratings than the World Cup.

Those CCTV thingies will just make lots of expensive court cases; better to switch them off so the courts can rule: ' insufficient evidence.'
