Western Hubris on Display . . .

China has almost 1 million people in Africa, and this UK article tells us that the West should be very worried.

What pathetic thinking. It's always about the control, the domination, and the resources.

It's the thinking that has created the mess in which we find ourselves.

"Oh Lordy, look, the Chinese are going to rape Africa before we do! We should be very worried!"

Don't think of the Chinese as benevolent benefactors. It is simply that they are willing to turn a blind eye to things like abuse of human rights and environmental destruction in order to get what they want.

Seems to me a lot of the back and forth is over the fact that some nations go for the resources plain and simple but peacefully, some just grab the damn things, and many of the western countries prepare a fantastic cover story of saving souls and introducing political and social systems while they are grabbing the resources.

It's called trade. It's not like people don't pay for it in the process.

Lets not forget that Africa has also been supported by so many American and European church missions over the years to bring the word of God to the people and education and food for survival. Will China do that? I don't think so.

Africans say, "When the Europeans came, they had the Bible and we had the land. Now we have the Bible and they have our land.’"

Yes, thank you. "trade", trinkets and "fire water" for your furs, natural resources and land. Oh, and here are some germ-laced blankets on the house. Better yet, here is our "democracy" and "culture" for your oil and gas.

The Chinese aren't about to be afflicted with "yellow guilt" the way so many pathetic white scum are afflicted with "white guilt."

With a gating resource like hydrocarbon supply it is not an
eastern nor western trait or trademark to create puppet
governments, bribe and woo strange bedfellows, or topple
the same as demanded by the strategy and arrangement of
an advantages of the moment. What is baffling to me is that
if you are a major power and are actively doing this sort of
thing as is necessary, that you would be so incompetent as
to be caught napping by a very obviously opposing player
you have been building out of the game brick by brick for
a dozen years or more of effort. It seems to show that one
team bought into their strategy and skill so much that they
stopped considering defense or hedging against pushing
their advantage to a breaking point that was not necessary
to pursue in the first place.

If you are going to run with the big dogs, you will have to be a
smart dog, a big dog, a pragmatic dog, and it of course always
helps if you are also a lucky dog. Guilty dogs don't get to play
at all.

What have the European education or religion thought Africans but mass murder and genocide. There age old traditions were trampled in favor or static European bureaucracy that actually was shaped for the profit of the Europeans and mass confusion of the locals. Lets hope and pray that China doesnt walk the same path of 'civilizing'.
Religion has always been for the simple minded, while money has always been the sole concern of the rich- money at any cost. How Africa was further raped.
