That is not happy talk here in Panama, that is existentially worrying!

As long as Venezuela is shipping oil to China you will always have trade.

Six Million People in China Just Went 100% Renewable for a Week

...“Clean energy is the ultimate way,” Han Ti, general manager of the Qinghai grid company told local news outlet Xinhua. “We need to reduce reliance on fossil fuel, improve our energy structure, and reduce carbon emissions.”

The Qinghai province has 19.7 million kW of renewable energy installed, and makes up a little over 82 percent of all the energy production in the province. Qinghai is the fourth largest province in China, spanning the northeast part of the Tibetan plateau and has the headwaters of the two largest rivers in China, the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers. Most of the energy during the test week was produced by hydro-electric power, thanks to the major rivers. Because of its renewable energy output, and the fact that it is one of the most sparsely populated regions of China, it is the ideal place to test the using only green energy.

(Tho one should note that in this case it's mostly hydro, which has its...problems...)

US reducing its CO2 emissions more than any other nation in the world?

Yeah baby! Happy talk! Don't need no stinkin Paris accords when we showing off that exceptionalism thing some more!! Silly Europeans...tricks are for kids!

According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), U.S. carbon dioxide emissions were 2.5 percent less in 2015 than in 2014. In fact, since 2007, when they peaked, carbon dioxide emissions in the United States have been reduced by 12.2 percent. According to the Washington Times, the United States has reduced its carbon dioxide emissions more than virtually any other nation in the world.[i] For comparison, the European Union, which has spent $1.2 trillion on support for wind, solar and bio-energy, increased its carbon dioxide emissions by 0.7 percent in 2015 over 2014 levels. The biggest increase was in Belgium, where carbon dioxide emissions increased by 4.7 percent.[ii]

France just announced an initiative to ban petrol and diesel cars completely:

France’s new environment minister, Nicolas Hulot, has announced a series of measures today aiming to make France a carbon neutral country by 2050.

The most radical one is a ban on petrol and diesel cars in 2040.

Several countries have suggested goals and have explored mandates to discourage the sales of gas-powered cars in the future, but France is aiming for an actual ban. It’s later than others’ goals, like Norway aiming for 2025, but again, those are just goals while France is talking about a government enforced ban.

Also, those goals generally refer to the end of new petrol car sales, but Hulot is actually talking about a phase-out period starting now. It is being reported as “all petrol and gas cars” and the minister actually said “the end of the sale of petrol or diesel vehicles between now and 2040.

So does this mean the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans should be evacuated and converted into parkland that bears the brunt of any future flooding? That actually seems pretty reasonable to myself, but I live a very long was away from there and only visited once.

Good question. Some will heed the wisdom of this approach, others won't.

Of course, different locals will have different kinds of issues.
