There appears to be a reasonably large contingent of people promoting further technology and industry to the point where computers and robots will essentially take over, I think one of the names for this is the great singularity.
From my perspective, the great singularity (artificial intelligence greater than human intelligence) is more dangerous than the collapse of civilization. We could produce a new species that does not breathe, does not need an ecosystem and can collaborate across units in ways that humans never could. We and the whole ecosystem could become irrelevant. They could thrive off of primary energy and exist almost anywhere. Those constructs would be even more dangerous than we are and think much faster.
Once in a while the peasants do win. Of course then they just go and find new rulers, you think they would learn.
