Lyme Disease? I've had it... You take antibiotics ..the longer the better (best bet is to pulse it because Lyme is slow to replicate). Ask anyone with neural Lyme or those bed ridden by it or those that die from it (Lyme disease loves infecting the heart). Not to mention the other little bugs that travel with Lyme (Babesia and Bartonella //along with others)> I took Doxy for a month and continue to take naturals just in case... There are natural antibiotics out there... some say Oregano Oil, Cats Claw, Enula, even grapefruit seed extract (that one is debatable) can kill various forms of bacteria/parasites. Most Lyme folks (chronic) take 2 or more antibiotics at a time. One case i read had a guy (this was in the 90s) taking Amoxi for like 7 years!

Everyone on TWD would have Lyme sooner or later for how much time they spend stomping around the woods... especially in the spring.

I don't get why that Rick Grimes carrys that huge cannon 6 shooter (.357?) for a sidearm... I'd have something that carries as many rounds as possible.

I think TWD folks have it easy..most of the population is toast...the zombies are dumb (predictable) ... easier to deal with then humans. I stopped watching the show after season 3... I did find the comment by the CDC nutcase funny (relying on fossil fuels=big mistake).

It would be nice to see someone with a break-top 9 round H&R .22 revolver.
I'd be pretty happy with my CZ82 with a dozen rounds of 9x18.
Personally it annoys me to see TWD actors using sidearms as clubs and even to hammer nails (!). A gun won't last long when misused like that.

Yes it can be very difficult to treat, though some of the research this year is promising...

northeastern.edu wrote:Researchers’ discovery may explain difficulty in treating Lyme disease - June 2015

Northeastern University researchers have found that the bacterium that causes Lyme disease forms dormant persister cells, which are known to evade antibiotics. This significant finding, they said, could help explain why it’s so difficult to treat the infection in some patients...

...In addition to identifying the presence of these persister cells, Lewis’ team also presented two methods for wiping out the infection—both of which were successful in lab tests. One involved an anti-cancer agent called Mitomycin C, which completely eradicated all cultures of the bacterium in one fell swoop. However, Lewis stressed that, given Mitomycin C’s toxicity, it isn’t a recommended option for treating Lyme disease, though his team’s findings are useful to helping to better understand the disease.

The second approach, which Lewis noted is much more practical, involved pulse-dosing an antibiotic to eliminate persisters. The researchers introduced the antibiotic a first time, which killed the growing cells but not the dormant persisters. But once the antibiotic washed away, the persisters woke up, and before they had time to restore their population the researchers hit them with the antibiotic again. Four rounds of antibiotic treatments completely eradicated the persisters in a test tube...

Agreed! And probably feeling like zombies themselves, that would make an interesting episode if they had at least one cast member wondering if he was slowing turning into a zombie, but they put in hints it was lyme and or babesiosis...

Being prepared for zombies is now a real thing in Illinois

(CNN)It's not like marauding hordes of zombies are roaming the streets of Illinois, but state lawmakers think that's no reason not to be prepared.
The legislature has declared October "Zombie Preparedness Month."
Why? Because, as House ResoIution 0030 says, "If the citizens of Illinois are prepared for zombies, than [sic] they are prepared for any natural disaster."
The resolution was approved Thursday and yes, at the heart of it, it speaks to a bigger point: Americans, for the most part, aren't equipped with dealing with natural disasters. Very few have an emergency plan prepared or even supplies of food, water or medicine.

Still, the debate on the House floor as lawmakers considered the measure, made for some interesting moments.
"Rep. Steven Andersson, R-Geneva, questioned which type of zombie should be used as a model for natural disaster preparedness," the Chicago Tribune reported.
He noted "that the undead featured on the show "Z Nation" are quick and smart. Those portrayed on "The Walking Dead," though, are slow but come in droves."
Here's the full text. It's good reading:

I'm so glad that Illinois has solved all of their budget problems and have time for this nonsense.

Not being able to solve budget problems or "Make Illinois Great Again" is probably a good indicator the the Zombies are coming.
Prepping is probably even more necessary

Surely we can build a wall to keep zombies out and make the zombies pay :P

Just don't put Rick Grimes in charge of the wall. It will never get built.

Maybe, in reviewing their 'budget problems', someone figured out they had no workable Plan B in the case of major disruptions, emergencies, or disasters, and weren't going to have the funds to implement anything useful. Someone tried to come up with a clever bill to encourage (at least some) folks to get prepared.

I'm convinced that most folks have too much faith that government has their backs if TSHTF; that government on all levels is woefully unprepared. I read an article recently (can't figure out where) where the interviewee suggested that the government had giant warehouses around the country full of food and rationing cards, ready for a major collapse, catastrophe, or martial law. Really?

Maybe they'll put Brownie in charge. Meanwhile, I'm good to go on most things.

In major disasters here the government has come through .
During flooding we had helicopter drops of water and food
Flour was bought into the bakery by LARC
Credit was made available with the issuing of debit cards
Money was deposited into bank accounts
Psychologists were flown in
and lots of other stuff
