Uruguay makes dramatic shift to renewable energy

Unread postby JuanP » Sat 02 Jan 2016, 21:51:36

Uruguay makes dramatic shift to nearly 95% electricity from clean energy, http://www.theguardian.com/environment/ ... ean-energy
Thanks to Apnea I found this article which I had missed. Uruguayans can’t take any credit for this because we were just blessed with these natural gifts of high winds, locations for hydroelectric plants, and large amounts of biomass and solar energy. Most Uruguayans have no idea how lucky they are.

Some countries are lucky to have lots of renewable enrgy sources and few ff to sell.
In 2014, 79.9% of the electricity generated in New Zealand came from renewable sources

Unfortunately places like Australia are blessed with heaps of wind, solar and geo thermal potential but it would make it harder to sell the coal to Asia if we didn't use it ourselves and chose other sources ...and its cheap and the fossil fuel lobby is rich and powerful.
