There is the Problem:

Germanys natural gas deliverer Netherlands (~20%) said that 2030 no more gas for export is free.

FWI: European dry NG production peaked 10 years ago. UK NG peaked in 2000. Russian NG production peaked in 2008. Another distinction: the folks in the EU and UK require NG imports to sustain lives and their industries. But Russia doesn't. They just need to export NG to earn revenue. They produce all the NG they need to warm their citizens and keep their factories running. A significant distinction IMHO.

What are the chances that the UK/Russian fracking will take off any time in the near future? If the odds are bad then even Russia won't be exporting for scores of years into the future.

Should be easy for Russia to frac assuming the correct geology, the UK not so much as every possible frac location is in someone's back yard and there is already a major anti-fracking campaign getting up to speed.

It may be a different story when we reach the frac or freeze stage.

Merkels deal with Putin: Land for Gas!

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 38764.html

Land for gas: Merkel and Putin discussed secret deal could end Ukraine crisis

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said they had no knowledge of such negotiations taking place. However, the spokesman said he thought it highly unlikely that either the US or UK would agree to recognising Russian control over Crimea. There was no one available at the German embassy’s press office yesterday......
**********************************************************************************************

Lol Merkels star is sinking...Deal with the Devil?

Germanys mass media is still full of anti Putin and anti Russia propaganda in cold war stile.

To be fair it is Germanys vital interest to have russian oil, uranium , coal and gas supplies online or the lights in Germany go off.

So when it gets cold Russia is importnat for us not the bankrott Ukraine.

Merkels could step down immediatly if the German Michel is sitting in the dark winter in his cold wintergarden.

The German voter will remember Merkels politic.

Earthquake Dangers in Dutch Gas Field Were Ignored for Years, Safety Board Says
By STANLEY REEDFEB. 18, 2015

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/02/ ... LG20150218

Dutch gas exports in 2012 totaled nearly 57.3 bcm, or around 12 percent of Europe's gas demand, about 75 percent of it from the Groningen field.

The field is operated by government-owned Gasunie and output jointly exploited by the government, Royal Dutch Shell and Exxon Mobil through NAM (Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij).

Trader GasTerra said it will have to buy gas on the open market to meet contractual obligations following the ordered production cut at Groningen.

Sub - "What are the chances that the UK/Russian fracking will take off any time in the near future?" Sorry...missed your question way back when. Until there are a few hundred test wells that produce for at least a year I rate anyone's shale potential as zero. Which isn't to say it might not development but I don't based expectations on theories...just the facts. And such facts don't exist yet for the vast majority of shales around the globe. Remember that more hen 80% of US shale production comes from just two formations. two formations that represent less than 5% of the shale rock volume in this country. And that includes those may formations that are in the same area as the Eagle Ford Shale play. Of the thousands of dry holes I've studied over the last 40 years not one was drilled with the expectation it wouldn't work.
