"I don't recollect making predictions of any sort"

Oh come on. You're a perma-doomer. If there's any way to slant the news, you slant it in a negative direction. That's why even Planty is calling you out on your biases. Whether you call it a prediction or not, it's just plain inaccurate.

The internet overall encourages entrenched closed-mindedness. As long as there's something for people to get upset about, like Cecil the Lion or a police shooting, sure, it will move the needle. But trying to change people view of how the world works at a macro level? Forget about it.

I suppose it is a natural reaction to see any small bit of news as confirmation of one's opinions
and ignore anything which doesn't .
trawling through the internet can get plenty of ammunition for one's belief

still , the death of "peak oil" seems to me quite premature ,
I'll wait a bit , like a decade or two , before revising my opinion .
It's not stubbornness , it's just just lack of imagination !

I used to think of Peak Oil as the disaster, but now I am seeing that it's our salvation. We don't seem to be able to limit ourselves, so along comes Peak Oil to limit us. We may not have to be cooked off the planet by climate change.
Deep in the mud and slime of things, even there, something sings.

That's merely a sign of how obvious the point is--that even Planty of all people can't disagree (that we're in a glut and that it might last for a while).

It's subjective. Left vs. right hand list debates, as it were. What's more important, short-term quality of life or long-term ecological sustainability? There are those who subscribe to the voluntary human extinction club, after all. Then you have your Derrick Jensen eco-terrorist chicken-hawks who like to go encourage people to blow up dams during the college lecture circuit. This issue is very much a morality play that forces one to take a stand, but it would be wrong to think there's only one political position a doomer can take.
