Turtle, I think I have figured out the problem. If you leave a message unread in your box, when you next come back the link will read "No new messages" even if you have 2 or 3 unread messages (they aren't "new" I suppose but still unread.

Besides trying to get the admin to fix this glitch I'd say try PMing the people you want to contact again & hope they see it this time.

Private Messages seems to be working for me or are we talking about something else?

Perhaps it's Peak Messages ... when I click on where it says "1 new message", I get this:

Peak Oil News: Access Denied

Have you tried a different web browser? If it's just you having the problem then maybe you're web browser is messed up or has messed up settings. What browser are you using?

I'm using Firefox, and it's up to date.

For a while there I could get to my messages, but now I can't again. Weird.

Major upgrades and the accompanying problems with all that.
Avatars weren't working for a while, some people had problems with
their accounts. I would think your problems had to do with the
upgrades they were doing...

Private message won't send

Unread postby skyemoor » Mon 27 Apr 2009, 21:54:53

I tried sending a message (reply) and the message just sits in the outbox, not going anywhere, along with a few other messages from before the changeover.

Messages remain in the outbox until whoever they're addressed to reads them. Then they show in the sentbox...

Private Message alert

Unread postby Tanada » Tue 29 Dec 2009, 15:13:50

Suggestion, right now the software tells you if you have a 'new' private message. While this is helpful in some circumstances if you do not notice it when you are looking at the page the next time you log on it logically says you have 0 new messages unless additional messages came in while you were logged off.

I think the board would be better served if the counter told you how many UNREAD private messages you have, that way you would see the number of waiting messages every time you came online instead of just the first time after the message was sent. I have noticed that sometimes private messages I send are not read for some time by the recipient and I think this is part of the reason...

Thanks for reading and considering this suggestion.

my message box says I have -1 messages. My outbox is logging the messages. So I don't know if they are actually being delivered. (Seagypsy and Kristen, you MIGHT have a new message)

Hi Jay, I did reply, just now. If messages are shown in the outbox they haven't been opened by the recipient. Sent messages are those which have been opened. Messages in your outbox can still be cancelled/ edited. Once sent they can't be.

SG is correct.
For incoming messages, you should see a note, oh, about 11 o'clock, that will state how many, if any, messages you have. Also, at the bottom of the Menu Bar, it says, "Private Messages." If you have any, this will be spinning around. (sorta like me, some days! :) )
