Yeah...cash in a commodity that has protected wealth for 1000's of years for the US$ (or any fiat currency) that is in the shitter and will not be resurected.

Holy Hell !

I will refrain from putting your post on the "suggeted quote" thread, but that has got to be one of the dumbest things I have read here...maybe the dumbest...I'll get back with you on that after I compare Tyler and Airplane Pilot's top 5 moronic quotes.

I think deMolay meant that Schneider should get rid of the gold in favor of something useful....

For the record's sake:

A trader paid $100 a barrel for 1,000 barrels @ 12:10 pm.

Oh, and the Dow dropped below 13,000-again.....

Gold went into the $870 range and oil over $100Us again. I see on the LATOC that they are predicting shortages of Diesel fuel this year.

OMG a short post by De Molay lol 8O

I'm thinking of putting whatever savings I can put by, in "junk" silver coins that I'll probably just buy in dribbles locally as I get the $$. I've got things trimmed down where I need very little $$ to get by and silver will increase in $'s as a couple of years go by.

"Junk silver" is really fun. It's a great way to buy silver, since the coins are recognizable by a lot of people and have a set value. They are real money. The only danger is that it has the capacity to turn you into a numismatist. You'll start to like the look of Walking Liberties and Peace Dollars, and you may even start to want to have a few Morgans. Then you are hooked.

DeMolay - teens overnight, low 40s during the day. I actually went puttin' around on the motorcycle today, it's do-able although the hands complain a bit. Surprisingly the feet don't, the engine seems to radiate some head and my ankles go right against it due to my not having any decent boots and wear low-quarter Doc Martens. Very grey couple of days, I think we're supposed to get some precip, snow or rain or both lol.

It will start to warm up in March. Kind of.

Downtown (prescott, 30 miles from here) is pretty decent even in the winter though, it's walkable even to the "outer" places like the K-mart or the welfare place. In winter like this you can just dress warmish and the walking will keep you warm. Lots of people getting together in the bars etc and having a pretty warm old time really. This place reminds me of a smaller Colorado Springs - 4-season weather, rabidly Republican area that since it was planned out well over 100 years ago is walkable, bikeable, and since there's all this old infrastructure is much more liveable than newer places that may be full of eco-freakies, are not walkable etc.

We've got a rail line right into town, the old station is a coffee shop right now and the line's not being used, but that could change. There's actually a lot going on, it just kind of sux because I'm kind of isolated from it..... need to get skills together so I can go into town and make $$ with enough sureness that at least I can pay the gas for the trip, then work from there.

Check out the coin shops in Prescott, ILP. I'm sure that there are some pawn shops or antique places that have old coins. They probably have some peace dollars or walking libs that will go for close to the junk silver price.

I'm going down to Hallowell to get some of those coin sleeves, as I think I'll sell some walking libs and mercury dimes. They will go for the Red Book prices, and maybe a bit more now, since silver's at $15.34.

Check out the Red book, and maybe the Blue book as well if you are into the coin market, even at the junk silver end.

I would love to get a St. Gauden's double eagle some day, but I imagine that the price of them has gone up with the price of all PM's. It's a bit out of my league. I'll stick with lower priced silver.

CNN is calling for 8-10 feet of snow in the Donner Pass area, will that affect you as well?

Or post an ad on craigslist that you will buy junk silver.

Then goto:

www.coinflation.com

to check daily melt values.

I have hauled in a nice collection of pre 65 coins at below melt.

Why sell now?

Silver is still incredibly cheap.

I think you may be right, Roccman, but the walking libs and Merc dimes I'm selling are going for red book prices, not just their melt value. I'm not selling many. Just enough to see what the market is like. I am still buying, but I have moved on to Peace Dollars and Morgans. I like them and I think they may have some numismatic value beyond their silver price soon. I have the bug. I picked up a couple of silver dollars just the other day.

NovaGold (NG) to double in 2008? A good stock to own?

Unread postby easterisland » Sat 05 Jan 2008, 12:03:38

Most people agree Gold is going to go up this year, perhaps to
$1000 USD...

Is this stock good to own, it seems like it can easily double
in a few weeks/months time.....

No. The eps is horrible. I'd wait until it gets cheaper and maybe it will turn into a takeover target.

If you want to invest in gold miners, far better to spread the risk by buying GDX - it's an ETF comprised of 20 or so gold miners including Nova.

Or buy gold through GLD or precious metals through DBP or base metals through DBB.

Royal gold RGLD is a leveraged bet too.

Silver is SLV or check out SLW - up 90% in a year!

Good luck and hang on to your hats - '08 will be wild!

It's a very risky stock. Could go back to 20... or back to 6. In my brilliant wisdom I bought some at around its top of $21 in late October (thankfully only $600 worth). Then it lost about half its worth in one day in late November. It fell all the way to under $6 before rocketing back to its current level. A very speculative play.
