If it were merely the claims of a single lone nut scam artist, there would be nothing at all to sustain interest in the Rossi E-Cat..

Today, on his blog, Andrea Rossi clarifies the situation with Home Depot. I doubt many people thought his previous comment implied anything else but clarity is always welcome. No reputable outlet would think about selling such a thing without certification. To me, the significance of such talks lies in the knowing of them; the glimpse it gives us into the mindset behind the overall strategy.

Dear Mr. Rossi,
as we have heard recently, you plan on distributing the Ecats with the help of Home Depot. The service man which installs the Ecat in the home of the buyer, must then contact you before in order to receive instructions on how to install the Ecat. However: How do you plan on creating a service network for refueling the Ecats every 6 month? Is this so simple that anyone can do it?
Thanks for your time and all the best!

We are in contact with Home Depot for the distribution of the E-Cat, but until the certification procedures are completed the deal can’t be struck. This is a work in progress, not a work done.
Yes, the refill will be very, very simple and we will give preference to the assistance made directly by the already trusted installer or contractor of the Customer, so that he also will become a point of force for us.
A few posts later, he confirms his intention to have Sweden as an important eCat hub. This is likely due to his dealings with the physicists Sven Kullander and Hanno Essen.

Dear Janne Strom:
Our production factory will be in the USA.
To import them you will have just to order them. If you want, you can enlist in the waiting list; I hope to be ready to deliver by next Autumn, if not it will take some more month, not years. In Sweden we will have an important concern anyway, because Sweden will be a primary place for us: probably we will produce the E-Cats for Sweden directly in Sweden.

In the tradition of starting off the New Year with a resolution, I have decided to go large this year. I predict that 2012 will be the year that low energy nuclear reaction technology (LENR), also known as “cold fusion,” breaks out of the lab and into the commercial market. I hereby resolve to commit my energy and resources to advance the commercialization of any device that generates clean, inexpensive, safe, abundant energy.
I recently co-founded Fusion Catalyst, Inc., a public benefit 501(c)(3) corporation with Bastiaan Bergman for just that purpose. While we wait for a working reactor, we intend to support cold fusion research in any way we can. Our “Open Catalyst” project is one step in this direction. As it states on our website ( www.fusioncatalyst.org ), Open Catalyst is
“a crowd science project where many scientists globally can contribute to the search for the catalyzing material that enables low energy nuclear reactions. We plan to design and build a simple calorimeter reactor vessel that is automated and connected to the web. Scientists all over the world are invited to use this calorimeter and scan through potentially LENR-active materials. In this process, data is uploaded and shared in a completely open database. Every scientist in the world can slice and dice the data anyway he wishes. We envision that the power of the crowd can speed up the daunting task of searching for the secret catalyst.”
As the New Year commences, I thought I would try to articulate my view of the future of LENR – the reason we formed Fusion Catalyst in the first place...
I anticipate an objection that, if we eliminate poverty in the world, we will be faced with a global crisis of overpopulation. Even ignoring the Hobbsian cynicism underlying this objection (i.e., that we need war, poverty and infant mortality to keep human population in check), I believe that overpopulation will resolve itself in a world of abundance. For one thing, people will not need to crowd into metropolitan power centers. People will be free to spread out and live in what are now inhospitable areas of the planet. Some will choose to remain in cities, but it will be a choice and not an existential imperative, as it is for many today.
Conflict is conditioned upon scarcity. We don’t know what an “economics of abundance” would even look like. I’m not saying that this new technology won’t bring new problems of its own – it will not transform human nature overnight. But I am saying that, before we scare ourselves with unfounded nightmares, we should be open to the positive impact that such a technology can have on the world.
If the devices can eventually generate electricity without noxious emissions, without dangerous radiation, and without significant capital expenditures, we are freed from toil for the sake of survival. Farming is difficult in most parts of the world. With unlimited, free power, even if only in the form of steam, most of the work can be done mechanically. Work will take on a totally different meaning. New ways of living and associating will be invented. We may actually start to thrive as a species on this planet.

Why I Work
There is no question that the time has arrived for a revolution in the way we produce and consume energy. It is ironic that in a world composed of matter and energy, the freeing of energy for productive use has become such a challenge. It is also ironic that the difficulties we face are largely due to our insistence on low-technology solutions to generating energy. We continue to employ perhaps the earliest known human technology (burning with fire) to generate the vast majority of the energy used in our otherwise technologically advanced civilization.
I believe that human beings employing the scientific method can unlock Nature’s mysteries. Maybe we will never find answers to the ultimate questions, but we can be successful in incremental ways. And the more we are able to understand how things work, the more powerful we become. This power can be used to alleviate suffering and to improve the standard of living of all humans on the planet, and it can also be used to raise us to ever new levels of attainment – both physical and spiritual.
Tapping renewable energy sources is simply more elegant, more advanced, than burning fossil fuels. And it brings us more power. The more we understand and work within the balance of interconnecting forces that make up our world, the further we are able to evolve to higher levels of knowledge and consciousness. Exploiting resources in ways that degrade our living environment is really dull-witted. We can do better than that. Living sustainably on the planet is the baseline from which all further development of humanity can begin. Without it, no true progress is possible.
For these reasons, I focus my practice on clean technologies and renewable energy. I am here to do my part in bringing about a transformation in the world’s energy infrastructure.
NOTE: This article contains information that is alien to most readers. I suggest those interested in Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR) first take a quick look at NASA scientist Joseph Zawodny's PDF slide presentation, which was obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. Zawodny claims that LENR is not hot fusion, not cold fusion, but a strange kind of poorly understood "neutron absorption process" which give off useful amounts of heat, but very little radiation. Zawodny favors the Widom-Larsen Theory as a possible explanation for LENR. It involves the creation of heavy-mass electrons and ultra low momentum neutrons through the help of nanoscale magnetic fields. You don't have to understand the complex science in Zawodny's amazing slide show to get a general sense of the potential historic nature of this development.
What is happening right now with LENR technology?
Engineer Andrea Rossi claims to be in talks with a well known giant American retail chain store to sell his 10 kilowatt home heating LENR reactors...
As I see things, Rossi never wanted to reveal the details of his work, but
Levi through an appeal to friendship forced Rossi to be more open to
revealing information. His need to attract customers also forced some
minimal level of revelation. But Rossi always wanted to keep this info flow
to a minimum.
E-Cat evaluation at the University of Bologna was Levi’s idea because as an
academic, Levi’s status in academia requires a degree of verification,
openness, publication, and information flow to peers.
Now that Rossi is partnered with the US military, The UofP research effort
is not needed. Rossi will get all the R&D he would ever want or need from
the DOD and it will be kept secret with no possible information leakage.
This is the best of all worlds for Rossi.
Along with this R&D effort, the DOD will mount an intelligence campaign of
duplicity and disinformation to hide their interest in LENR development
work much in the same way that the UFO disinformation campaign was used to
covertly hide Stealth aircraft development at Area 51 from the Soviet Union.
Consistent with this scenario as informed by their past actions, I believe
it is highly probable that the DOD will assign field and/or senior level
intelligence officers to spread disinformation on various information
outlets including web sites that deal with LENR to cover their real defense
related efforts on the E-Cat.
With Vortex as the premier LENR web information site, this is why I think
you are actually an air force major with the appropriate background
assigned here to hound this web site, to spread disinformation about the
E-Cat, and to cover Rossi’s work for the DOD.
In the same way you demand of Rossi, to establish your “good faith” bona
fide please provide unsalable and definitive proof to the Vortex community
that you are not some DOD shill assigned by the DOD to put the Vortex
community off the scent, discourage the development and promulgation of the
real story of the E-Cat, Rossi and Defkalion, together with ridiculing and
undermining possible replication of the E-Cat.

I'm much less apt to dismiss Defkalion out-of-hand. It's partly just an
objective evaluation of what limited information we have of the organization.
I'll happily grant them a bit of time before real skepticism sets in, mostly
based on Jed's claim that a "competent observer" has done a site survey to
discuss testing protocols.
>From what I've gathered of the Defkalion story, they were gearing up to be a
>systems integration hub, and an early Ni-H reactor sales force. It appears

>"misled" by mismeasurement is so unlikely as to make no odds. This leaves
>only fraud, which I have no reason (yet) to seriously spend time on.
Rossi's past requires a cautious observer to consider fraud or exaggeration as
possible scenarios. Defkalion's BoD, to the best of my knowledge, have not
been shown to have any such backgrounds. I cannot conceive that someone
"duped" by Rossi would go on to perpetrate an even-larger fraud, especially
when there doesn't appear to be a "long game" in sight.
So, with this, I am going with my gut. I'd recommend witholding judgment, and
only point out that most evidence of Defkalion is limited to their statements.
I find their handling of the entire situation to be significantly more
consistent with a true developmental strategy.
- Of course, there's always the chance that their statements only appear so
professional, because of the juxtaposition of Rossi's childish rants about
clowns, snakes, and paid spies.
1) none of the experiments made with E-Cat (including that of 28th October 2011) has been carried out at the University of Bologna or by any of its scientists; 2) the University of Bologna (Department of Physics) is ready to carry out direct experiments on the E-Cat as soon as the contract signed with EFA Srl (Andrea Rossi’s Italian company) will be put in effect: this is the only reason why the University of Bologna researchers attended as observers to E-Cat experiments. The University of Bologna is carefully following the situation development.
