Are we going to hit 410 for the average in May, or will we fall just below that?

Based on what I see the last few years posted here I suspect we will peak at 409.xx very soon. If you look at that graph May and June are pretty flat every year.

New study of Amazon river CO2 emissions shows that biosphere does not take up as much CO2 as once thought

https://phys.org/news/2017-05-amazon-ri ... sions.html

Study finds Amazon River carbon dioxide emissions nearly balance terrestrial uptake

The results increase the most recent global estimates of CO2 emissions from rivers and lakes by almost 50%, with potentially huge implications for global climate policy

Anyone have any luck accessing the NOAA website? I get an error message saying they will be down for maintenance Saturday the 13th even though this is still Friday the 12th.

New NASA-Goddard animation showing 3D global variations in atmospheric CO2

animation of global CO2 in atmosphere

Pretty neat video from NASA---link is to a copy on YouTube.

Cheers!

Looking back over the data it now appears the early CO2 peak of 2016 has been repeated last year. As those who follow this thread frequently may remember last year we had both peak DAY and peak WEEK readings for 2016 in April even though the month itself was not the peak MONTH.

Well this year our peak DAY was April 26: 412.63 ppm

And so far our peak WEEK was Week beginning on April 23, 2017: 409.92 ppm

IOW the third week of April 2017 appears likely to be the weekly record holder for this year much as the second week of April 2016 was last year.

This breaks with the well established pattern of peak taking place from mid May to mid June with occasional excursions within those two months. It seems likely that this change heralds the fact that spring in the northern hemisphere is arriving 3-5 weeks earlier than it did during the latter half of the 20th century. On the other end of the scale we are seeing later frosts in the fall tending to help the northern trees hold onto their leaves later in the year as well.

Obama speaks against global warming then flies away via private jet and 13 car motorcade

obama-speaks-on-global-warming-then-spews-co2-with-private-jet-13-car-motorcade

Obama's personal CO2 footprint must be equivalent to that of a small country. So far he's vacationed on Richard Branson's private island in the Caribbean, then vacationed on Marlon Brando's private island in Tahiti and now he's vacationing at a $15,000 per day private villa in Tuscany, interrupting the endless posh vacations only long enough to give $400,000 speeches on Wall Street before climbing back into some billionaire's private jet and whooshing off somewhere else for more vacation.

Wow! What a guy! On a list of the world's worst CO2 producers he's got to be right up there in the top 10.

Don't worry---we'll fix everything with negative CO2 emissions someday!
