Obviously this grearttaw person is a spammer. How to filter out these people is the bane of administrators on all boards. I like the idea of no urls or pictures in a post until a person has posted at least 10 regular posts. I also like the idea of new people's posts not showing up until they have been reviewed, through the first 10 times. Yes, blacklisting is another option. We could have a section where the names of all new avatars or avatars with less than a certain number of posts are displayed, say 50. At this location there could be a way to see what these new avatars have posted. There we could have a sort of poll option where established members, with more than the certain number of posts, can vote once per avatar up or down. If the new avatar gets a certain percentage of down votes they are automatically deleted. There could even be an appeals process, for those who feel that they have been deleted for political reasons.

Elsewhere, I would like to suggest, again, a digression feature wherein sub-topics within a thread can go off on a tangent for a few pages. They could be referenced (clicked) from within the individual post that suggests them or from a banner at the beginning of a thread. This would be for topics which don't really hold up on their own outside of the thread in which they are birthed, but also don't belong stuffing the channel within that post either.

The simplest solution as suggested in other threads, is to pre-moderate a posters first ten or so posts, few if any spammers are going to provide ten legitimate replies before spamming.

Would it be possible to add a captcha for anyone trying to post a link, or given how often we all use links would that be too irritating?

Test. Ah, finally it worked!

Stupid spam block software. They should make spamming a criminal offense.

When you see the IP# that Spamhaus is complaining about, it's actually one of CloudFlare's IP# that is blacklisted. CloudFlare tried to get more aggressive with taking down bad actors on it's network, but hackers started using CloudFlare's takedown method as a door for launching DDOS attacks. It's a big pain in the butt and it is users like us that get caught in the middle of this mess.

Anyway, I'd just like to thank the staff for working to get us back up and running, and for trying to do something about those damn spammers.
Indeed, despite being a computer professional of sorts, the message made little sense, since it wasn't MY IP, etc.

Sometimes I think about getting back into support of commercial sites etc. but then I see problems like this and think "Naaaaaa...".

Realtime controls on dedicated networks (even if wide area) for me! I like it when a machine goes "Chunk-whirrr" on my command.

Well, hello board!

I have been blocked by spamhaus as a spammer for at least a week or to, I would just drop by to do a test post, and today it worked!

Here is their message, BTW, from send a email to their appeal address with the "tickert #". I wonder how many board members are blocked? It mentioned I would get an email if I was cleared from being blocked but no reinstatement email yet, I tried it just for curiosity.

God luck!

and already the spamming pricks are making there way through the filters.
I would really like to meet one of these guys...a Glaswegian handshake would sort him out I suspect.

Hi everyone. I've had word from admin that he has a fix. The site may be a bit slower in the short term, but that's the price we have to pay for the moment.

I think we have a problem. We seem to be down to a merry band of two or three.

The only posts I can see come from posters who I believe are outside the US.

Anybody any idea of what's going on?

Admin is aware of the problems but can't guarantee a fix for a while.

I have had two posters mention that they can't connect this morning. I've forwarded one of the PMs to admin.
