Unread postby bratticus » Tue 24 Mar 2009, 12:13:52

I searched peakoil.com for a list of names associated with Peak Oil and found it wanting so I started this one.

To qualify for this list there must be some form of media (text, video, etc.) in which the person's name is associated with Peak Oil.

Feel free to contribute names and links.

If you're including Malthus then it kind of goes off into broader territory.

The charter post on my blog points towards which I consider to be best of the best reference material for all the various dooms we face and what (if anything) we might be able to do about it. I've been amending it as I go along.

When all those people show up missing or at a FEMA re-education camp, we'll know who to blame
After fueling up their cars, Twyman says they bowed their heads and asked God for cheaper gas. There was no immediate answer, but he says other motorists joined in and the service station owner didn't run them off.

You have Tom Whipple twice - once under his CIA code name - "Tom" :)

There's probably a few other spooks like Woolsey. But I'd at least add a military guy like Adm. Hyman Rickover

I believe his given name is "JD."

Why the strict policy? The best of the bloggers are as insightful as any of the authors, more so in fact IMO. Just because they're secretive doesn't mean they have anything to say, Mr. Bratticus. 8) I'd definitely throw in Ilargi and Stoneleigh for the economic side of things, and JDenver's site is good as a clearinghouse for reposts to the usual gloomy scenarios. Doesn't matter if you don't think logistically his solutions will matter, and if you dismiss his sunny attitude because it hampers your pessimistic personality you're just irrational.

Big Gav's Peak Energy is a good site, too, more focus on solutions and unlike JD or me  he's not the abrasive sort, quite the gent in fact. Engineer-Poet at The Ergosphere. And more. You could segregate the code names into their own section, perhaps.

Excellent list, Bratt. Richard Rainwater should be on there, he was talking about LATOC four years ago. Also Jeffery Brown, "Westtexas" at TOD but, like at Cheers, everyone knows his name. GraphOilogy's his and Sam Foucher(aka Khebab)'s blog.

Mostly it's about saying "look at all the people who write about this" to the non-believers.

Fake names won't be as impressive. Plus there's the sockpuppet potential.

I think you have to include John Howe. He wrote a really good book on the subject, and has been raising awareness for years. He went to the petrocollapse conference and is a friend of Roscoe Bartlett and Richard Heinberg. His book, The End of Fossil Energy is on the bookshelves of all the top peak oil people.

He was the keynote speaker at the Commonground Fair three years ago.

His solar cars and tractors are an excellent hook to get people interested in the subject of peak oil.

He has talked to thousands and influenced thousands more.

When I first became aware of peak oil his book was invaluable to me.
