On February 10, the Turkish Army and its proxies from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) captured the village of Deir Balut in the Jandaris district west of the city of Afrin, according to Syrian oppositions sources.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Army General Staff announced in an official statement that the Turkish Air Force (TAF) destroyed 36 positions of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the Afrin area and “neutralized” 79 Kurdish fighters in a series of airstrikes on February 10.

From its side, the YPG announced that its fighters repelled a large attack of the Turkish-backed FSA on their positions in the village of Hec Bilal in the district of Sheikh al-Hadid west of Afrin. According to the Kurdish Hawar News Agency (ANHA), YPG fighters killed 25 fighters of the FSA and destroyed an armored vehicle of the Turkish Army while they were reppelling the attack on Hec Bilal.

Turkey-led forces advance on one of Afrin’s largest towns following latest gains against Kurdish fighters
By Andrew Illingworth - 11/02/2018

The taking of Haj Iskandar has now put Turkey-led forces within three kilometers of the town of Jandairis – one of the largest population centers in the Afrin region and, presumably, a stronghold for Kurdish paras.

In any case, it remains to be seen whether or not Kurdish forces make a determined fight to hold Jandairis when the inevitable attack by the Turkish Army and allied militias comes......

BBC NEWS

SAA will help Syrias Kurds/Arabs in Afrin to defend Syria against Turkey s Invasion

Afrin: Kurdish fighters 'strike deal' with Syrian army

Kurdish fighters in north-western Syria say they have struck a deal with the Syrian government under which it will send troops to help repel a Turkish offensive.

The Syrian government in Damascus has offered no confirmation.

Turkey regards the Kurdish fighters, just across its border in Afrin, as terrorists. It launched a major offensive against them last month.

There is currently no Syrian military presence in the area.

A senior Kurdish official, Badran Jia Kurd, told Reuters that government soldiers could enter the Afrin region within days and that they would deploy to some border positions.

The alleged agreement was also reported by Iraqi Kurdish media group Rudaw, which quoted a Kurdish politician from Syria, and a news agency which backs Syrian Kurdish forces.

If the deal has really been struck, Turkish troops could find themselves confronting not only Kurdish fighters in Afrin, but the Syrian army too, says BBC World Service Middle East editor Alan Johnston.

Breaking: Syrian Army to enter Afrin region in next hours – SANA
By Leith Aboufadel - 19/02/2018

Minutes ago, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) announced that the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) will enter the Afrin region of Aleppo in the coming hours.

This report by SANA comes just 24 hours after Kurdish officials announced that the Syrian Army and YPG had reached an agreement that would allow the former to enter Afrin under certain preconditions.

Erdogan’s aggression unleashed
The international community should not allow the aggression of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to go unchallenged

Hany Ghoraba , Wednesday 14 Feb 2018

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan rarely wastes an opportunity to ignite more conflicts in the Middle East. Erdogan’s latest incursion into Syria has left little shadow of doubt about the Turkish president’s expansionary ambitions in the region and his desire to restore an archaic caliphate befitting his affiliation to the Muslim Brotherhood group, which sees this caliphate as an ultimate goal.

Erdogan’s latest military campaign, ironically labelled “Olive Branch”, has seen Turkish forces invading northern Syria and attacking the Syrian Kurdish population in the town of Afrin in order to tackle terrorists there, according to Erdogan’s claims. This major offensive has utilised air bombardments, heavy artillery and a fully-fledged ground invasion by tanks and infantry.

The campaign, launched on 17 January, marks the epitome of Turkey’s series of interventions in the Syrian Civil War, which it has been fuelling for the past seven years in an attempt to take down Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and establish a client Islamist regime. It comes as no surprise that the Muslim Brotherhood group in Syria has welcomed the invasion of its own country. It has shown support for the invasion and blamed the Kurds for their attempt to “divide the country”.

Turkey has constantly supported Islamists of different sorts abroad, and it was a constant supporter of the ill-fated Islamic State (IS) group. The latter, as is well known, has wreaked havoc on the entire region, and its fighters have found safe passage through Syria as well as an easy getaway after being besieged by Syrian and Iraqi forces in Syria and Iraq. Russian intelligence has documented that the Turkish border with Syria has seen countless smuggling operations of oil products from Iraqi oilfields sold on the black market to traders in Turkey.

No international group has helped President Donald Trump more in his first year in office than the Syrian Kurds, who provided ground troops to capture Raqqa, the “capital” of ISIS. Turkey’s dictator Recep Tayyip Erdogan is currently bombing Kurds in Afrin, Syria, and Trump needs to show loyalty to allies who once did the same by defying Turkey’s anti-American and anti-Israeli leader.

How the Syrian Kurds Helped Defeat ISIS

Several years ago, ISIS was beheading American journalists and sending operatives through the porous border between Syria and Turkey, taking lives in Europe and encouraging terrorist attacks in America.

Obama might have gotten credit for destroying ISIS by beginning a bombing campaign. However, his refusal to arm the Syrian Kurds and his reluctance to deploy a sufficient number of U.S. combat troops in Syria, bowing to public pressure, meant that ISIS would remain in the field. Former national security advisor and secret Turkish agent Michael Flynn rejected the plan to arm the Syrian Kurds, delaying an attack on ISIS and showing disloyalty to Trump.

With Flynn gone, the Trump administration made the correct call: arming the Syrian Kurds. Within a few months, the combination of U.S. airstrikes and armed Kurdish militias captured ISIS’s “capital” of the caliphate. History will give credit to Trump, provided that America doesn’t make a mistake in backing the wrong side, providing a way for ISIS and other terrorists to regain their foothold in Syria.

Syrian Kurds Need America’s Help

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson announced that Trump would keep U.S. forces in Syria to train 30,000 Syrian Kurdish forces in order to ensure that ISIS doesn’t make a comeback....

For the third time in the last 72 hours, the Turkish-backed rebels have managed to seize several areas from the Kurdish-led YPG forces in the Afrin region.

In addition to their advance at Rajou in northwest Afrin, the Turkish-backed rebels also scored a big advance in the southern countryside of this region, seizing a number of areas at the Jandaris axis....

+++Syrian Army enters Afrin to assist Kurdish forces+++
By Andrew Illingworth - 20/02/2018

+++It is for sure that Syria and Turkey are now @ WAR +++

Syrian pro-government forces have commenced their long awaited intervention into the country’s Afrin region as part of an operation to support local Kurdish fighters in their fight against the Turkish Army and pro-Ankara militias under its command.

Moments ago, confirmation came through that armor, vehicles and troops of the National Defence Forces (Damascus-led forces closely linked to the Syrian Army) entered into Afrin at the Al-Zearah crossing point in support of local Kurdish fighters.

It is yet to be seen if the Damascus’ intervention forces serves to discourage the Turkish Army from further attacks against Kurdish paras in Afrin or if it actually escalates hostilities across the region.

At the present time, Turkish Army artillery has actually started shelling the entry point where pro-government forces are entering into Afrin.

Turkish Invasion in Syria now a real thread for Assad he sends troops to counter turkish agression.
https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/vi ... ggression/

TOTAL WAR

https://www.truthdig.com/articles/age-total-war-syria/

Turkey itself seems set on ethnically cleansing the canton of Afrin, which has some 500,000 Kurds, sending in its own troops and armor but also fundamentalist Arab fighters in hopes of establishing a Salafi paradise in an area dominated by leftwing/ anarchist Kurds. The unstated goal here is almost certainly to chase the Kurds out of this region and establish a Salafi buffer zone for Turkey’s benefit on the Syrian side of the border.

The possibility now exists that the Turkish plan will be opposed by Syrian troops and by Lebanese and Iraqi Shiite militiamen who are going up to Afrin. But it is not clear that Iran and Russia want this rescue mission (Iran has 4 million restive Kurds and cooperates with Turkey against Kurdish nationalism), and Afrin Kurds have accused Russia of trying to block it. Al-Assad, however, does not always listen to his patrons, and he and his officials are eager to recover the Syrian Kurds as a constituency.

The dark moral universe in which al-Assad is the best hope for avoiding the ethnic cleansing of 500,000 Afrin Kurds by a NATO member state, while he and his bloodthirsty military kill large numbers of children and other civilians in East Ghouta, is emblematic of our post-post WW II era, in which international law and international governance seem irremediably broken

How is the situation in Afrin now?

A month has passed since the attacks on Afrin and during this month, the whole world knows how Turkey’s invading forces are attacking Afrin. Turkey aims to replace the Kurds with other people and there should be an international stand against these attacks.

There is an international conflict between Russia, America, France and Turkey, and Turkey is trying to enter the territory of northern Syria and to occupy it. That’s why there must be an international response to stop these attacks and Turkey should retreat back to its borders.

Defending Afrin
BY
ROSA BURÇ KEREM SCHAMBERGER
Turkey's war on Afrin is an attack not only on Kurdish self-determination, but on democracy and women's liberation in the Middle East.

Image

“Kurds have no friends but the mountains” has become an easy refrain over the years to respond to the injustices the Kurdish people have been subjected to. But, after more than a century of atrocities, the Afrin assault still feels particular and urgent, an opportunity for meaningful solidarity before all democratic accomplishments in Northern Syria are destroyed by Turkey, her jihadist foot-soldiers, and the imperial powers. The Afrin crisis has emerged as an epitome of the region’s predicament and raises three fundamental questions: What is Turkey’s role in the historical oppression of Kurds in the region? Who today challenges them as the defenders of Afrin? And what are the geopolitics of the conflict?

According to a military report from Aleppo, the Turkish Air Force bombed the National Defense Forces (NDF) at the town of Sharan in Afrin, killing at least 18 military personnel and wounding three others.

In addition to the death toll, at least 19 other military personnel have declared missing as a result of this bombing.

AFRIN CITY BATTLE : ENEMY @ THE GATES

BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:55 P.M.) – The Turkish-backed rebels scored a major advance in the Afrin region of Aleppo, today, after another short battle with the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG).

According to pro-opposition activists, the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) managed to capture the strategic Kafr Janah Military Camp, which is located just north of Afrin city.

The Kafr Janah Miitary Camp was the installation that the pro-government National Defense Forces (NDF) were stationed at before they were bombed by the Turkish Air Force last week.

As a result of this advance, the Turkish-backed rebels are now within 7km of Afrin, marking their closest approach to this city since they kicked off Operation Olive Branch on January 20th...

The Russian Federation is a partner of bloodshed with the Turkish state in Afrin
For more than 47 days, the Turkish state and its terrorist factions of ISIS and AL-Nusra front have launched an aggression and open warfare on Afrin enclave, using various types of weapon and troops.

As everyone knows, Afrin’s sky was protected by the Russian Federation air forces, and if it hadn’t been the Russian approval, the Turkish air forces would not be able to penetrate the Syrian space and carry out their airstrikes and aggression.

It is clear now that the Russian Federation complicit with the Turkish state by opening her airspace for the Turkish state allowing her to commit massacre against the civilians in Afrin. The Russian complicity came after many failure attempts by the Russian to extort People’s Protection Units and the political administration in Afrin, and impose Russian private agendas which have no benefits for the Syrian people.

Because of the Russian Federation agreement with the Turkish state by allowing her to carry out ethnic cleansing and force the people in Afrin to displacement, it is obvious now that the Russian Federation is a partner with the Turkish state in shedding the blood of the Kurdish innocent people.

We are in the General Command of YPG, call the Russian Federation government to undo its decision of allowing the Turkey’s invasion on Afrin and stop participating in killing the people in Afrin and destroying its towns and villages. Also we call the Russian people to put pressure on their government to prevent it from proceed in this scheme which does not serve Russian people and urged their government to retreat the scheme at once.

TURKISH WAR CRIME : The SIEGE of AFRIN SYRIA !

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/middleea ... 23759.html

Water cut in Syria's Afrin as Turkey completes encirclement
Syrians in Afrin cut off from water and bread as Turkish forces completely surround the Kurdish city.

Water to Syria's Afrin has now been cut for a week, the United Nations said on Wednesday, as Turkey's military finished encircling the Kurdish city in preparation for a major ground assault.

Access to clean drinking water ended after Turkish troops and allied Syrian fighters seized the main dam and water plant from the People's Protection Units (YPG) militia in the Kurd-dominated region in northwest Syria.

"Local workers were unable to access the dam controls to pump water. The water supply has been cut off," the UN office for humanitarian affairs said in a statement.
It is a scandal that the NATO/WHO is silent about this turkish Genocid + ethnic cleaning in Afrin!

Following an official statement by Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s spokesperson saying that Ankara is willing to cooperate with Washington in Syria to create a shared security zone around the city of Manbij (currently held by US-backed forces), additional commentary was made regarding Turkey’s intentions for Afrin.

According to Ibrahim Kalin, President Erdogan’s spokesperson, Turkey has no intention to hand over the city of Afrin to the Syrian government once it is captured from Kurdish fighters.

The Turkish Genocid in Afrin Syria ?!

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... ria-arming

It’s like Spain in 1936.” Those are the words of Alexander Norton, a charismatic 31-year-old railway worker from east London, as Turkish forces besiege the Kurdish city of Afrin. Following in the tradition of Britain’s courageous International Brigades eight decades earlier, Norton has risked his life to fight Isis alongside Kurdish freedom fighters in Kurdish Syria. As you read this, a secular democracy that celebrates women’s rights is under attack, including by Turkish-aligned troops who have sung al-Qaida songs and threatened to cut off the heads of their “atheist” victims. If you’re wondering why Kurds and their supporters occupied King’s Cross and Manchester Piccadilly stations last weekend: here’s why. The Conservative government is arming to the teeth a nation ruled by an authoritarian despot, whose regime is linked to extreme jihadist groups, and which is now attempting to liquidate one of the only islands of democracy in a sea of Middle Eastern despotism: and yet virtually no one is speaking out about it.

Alexander Norton is right. This is our Spain. Extremist authoritarians who despise democracy, women and freedom are at war with what should be an international beacon, a society that offers an example far beyond the despot-afflicted Middle East. Turkey knows that Rojava’s success will inspire not just its own Kurdish population to assert its rights: it sees a system which threatens its own degenerate authoritarian order. British Kurds are occupying train stations and roads because no one will listen to them about one of the gravest injustices on Earth. To abandon them now would be a shameful crime that would never be forgotten.

There is a city in Syria named Afrin ....... where so many of our brave democratic friends fell.

Long live Rojava!

Viva la Revolution!

More than 200,000 civilians have fled the city of Afrin in northern Syria in less than three days to escape a Turkish-led military offensive against a Kurdish militia, a war monitor said on Saturday as a Turkish air strike killed 11 civilians.

Syria war: 'Civilians killed' as thousands flee Turkish air strikes

At least 150,000 people have reportedly fled the Kurdish-majority city.

Turkey denies targeting civilians. It launched its military operation to clear the Afrin region, in northern Syria, of a US-backed Kurdish militia it considers a terrorist organisation.

Turkey and its Free Syrian Army allies have captured several villages in their push to capture the city, reports say. The FSA said it had opened corridors to the south to allow civilians to escape.

However, Afrin resident Ranya said shells had hit cars carrying civilians in the al-Mahmoudia area. "Bodies were everywhere," she said.
