Based on the latest weekly numbers our ten year average yearly increases is sitting at 2.311 ppmv/year. The "good" news is we seem to be resuming a slower rate of increase as the El Nino effect trails off into La Nina this winter.

Well, that's not particularly good news for my ambition to live to see 500 ppm. I guess I'll just have to hope for the methane clathrates to speed things up.

Sorry, I know you take these things seriously, but by now it should be obvious that we're never going to do anything except dig up and burn everything that can be dug up and burned. All that's left is to find a good place for the lawn chair, have plenty of popcorn and beer on hand, and enjoy the show.

Never fear, diemos. We will probably settle at a rate a bit higher than that, since levels were 'artificially' elevated last year from Nino and 'artificially' reduced this year by his sister, the rate this year will be kind of a low blip on a long term steadily rising rate of increase, especially given that we seem to have started increasing the rate of emissions, after a few years of an apparent plateau.
