The current trigger seems to be the Deutsche Bank facing a $14bn fine in the US for mis-selling mortgage-backed bonds before the financial crisis of 2008.

I am sure there are other underlying issues, but how does this fine compare with what the American Banks faced for similar misdeeds?

Point of fact, every time people in positions of authority throw around that terminology "too big to fail" Joe6pack knows the fix is in and the average taxpayer is up the familiar creek with no paddle in sight. Doing it just weeks before a very important USA election could have a strong impact on how the election here turns out because our leaders will inevitably make statements about the issue.

There were a great many people who thought the system should have been allowed to reset in 2008 instead of the last 8 years of constantly propping it up and making the inevitable eventual collapse worse than it had to be.

I was wondering about the pressure that Wells Fargo is currently under from the US Justice Department. With all of the world's banks in so much trouble, it seems like these actions might cause Wells Fargo some serious solvency problems. On the surface, the US policy seems pretty schizophrenic. I know the Justice Department is supposed to be independent and all, but this some pretty bad timing. Or is it? Maybe it is all part of the plan.

Is the US attempting to clear out the banking glut by surgically removing a major US bank? Is this what triage looks like?

I think it could be a matter of scale. It's a massive bailout out for the German government to handle!

I heard rumors that the German banks were having a "holiday". Is there any truth to it?

.
there is some resistance to the US judiciary imposing its view ( and very hefty penalties ) on the rest of the world

from Reuters "Deutsche may not face German penalty over Russian trades - sources"
http://uk.reuters.com/article/uk-german ... KKCN12613G

One should keep in mind that Germany is a good ally but any hanky-panky with one's money , women or religion is a sure fire way of cheesing of the yokels .
post Brexit ,the subject of an European army is on the table again
that would be a grievous blow to the US military dominance ,the very mirror of the US dollar hegemony
the assertiveness of the EU commission to look at Google and others malpractices and tax avoidance schemes
should be seen as some kind of payback .

Just bought 1000 shares of Deutsch Bank(DB) yesterday, so you can probably guess my opinion on them going bankrupt. Privatize the profits and socialize the losses.
