BEIRUT, Lebanon — Yemen’s exiled government has agreed to participate in peace talks with a rebel group known as the Houthis in a possible step toward ending the nearly seven-month conflict in Yemen, government officials and the United Nations said on Monday. The Houthis had previously indicated their willingness to attend the talks, which could be held in the next few weeks in Geneva, diplomats said.

Riyadh: Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir said Wednesday that he sees the Yemen war nearing its end.

"One of the indications that the campaign is nearing its end is the fact that ... Ali Abdullah Saleh and Al Houthis are accepting UN Security Council Resolution 2216 and entering into talks the UN on that basis,” Al Jubeir told a press conference with his British counterpart in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

“We also see the gains that have been made on the ground. Most of Yemen’s territory that was captured by the rebels has been recaptured,” he added.

It was also Al Jubeir who announced the launch of an air campaign by a Saudi-led coalition against Iranian-allied Al Houthi militia forces in Yemen last March.

In Yemen War, Mercenaries Launched By Blackwater Head Were Spotted Today -- Not Good News
NOV 26, 2015
The United Arab Emirates, as reported in today’s New York Times, has hired foreign mercenaries, from a program launched by Blackwater’s head Erik Prince, and secretly sent them to the fighting in Yemen. This is not a good sign. Blackwater private security alienated Iraqis against the United States. Now the use of foreign mercenaries will signify to the “outs” in the Middle East that the rich will buy guns-for-hire to use against them.

This program gets laid out in a New York Times piece entitled, “Emirates Secretly Sends Colombian Mercenaries to Yemen Fight.” It explains that this is “the first combat deployment for a foreign army that the Emirates has quietly built in the desert over the past five years.” The Emirates had a brigade of 1,800 soldiers from Latin America which provided 450 troops now arriving in Yemen. It seems there are also going to be hundreds of other foreign mercenaries — Sudanese and Eritrean soldiers — brought into Yemen.

These can be viewed as a second generation of foreign mercenaries hired by the countries of the Arabian Peninsula. In the first generation, still powerful, in 1975 Saudi Arabia brought in Vinnell Corporation, an American defense contractor, to train the “Saudi Arabian National Guard.” This is a force outside the official Saudi military and the Ministry of Defense (and larger than the Saudi military). Instead, the 75,000 man National Guard reports to the King. This makes its main duty to suppress internal political unrest that challenges the state’s authoritarian structure. Vinnell receives $819 million for its maintaining 1000 employees in Saudi Arabia doing contract work with the National Guard and Royal Air Force.

The little-known Vinnell is now owned by Northrop Grumman. It has undertaken projects in fifty other countries, including for the United States in the Vietnam War, when it ran secret intelligence programs. Its advantages include giving the Saudis the very top-grade American support without any “official” United States involvement.

In 2011, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia’s neighbor and ally, was shaken during the Arab Spring by unrest. It has a downtrodden Shia majority ruled over by a Sunni minority. The Saudis sent the Vinnell-trained National Guard in, with other forces, to crush the unrest.

The Saudi Royal Army reportedly suffered heavy losses on Tuesday when the Yemeni Army’s missile battalion targeted the Jizan regional airbase in southern Saudi Arabia with a Type-1 Qahir ballistic missile. According to both Al-Masirah and Al-Manar, the Saudi Crown Prince and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman paid a quick visit under very tight security measures to the Jizan Public Hospital to check the dead and wounded among his soldiers who were killed in the strike on the Airport earlier this week.

Meanwhile, at the Saudi city of Rabu’ah, the Yemeni Army’s Republican Guard forces captured 2 more Saudi military installations, leaving only a small parcel of territory left under the control of the coalition forces. The Yemeni Army did not stop there, they also stormed the strategic Shurfa Camp in the Najran Province of Saudi Arabia; this battle is still ongoing.

Yemeni army forces, backed by fighters from allied Popular Committees, have gained control of a military base in Saudi Arabia’s Najran Province. Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah news website reported that as part of the retaliatory campaign for relentless Saudi military attacks against the impoverished nation, Yemeni forces on Sunday managed to seize control of Nahuqeh military base.

WAR IN YEMEN GOES ON!

The Saudi-led delegation at the Yemen Peace Talks in Kuwait have temporarily suspended its participation – no reason was given. Chief spokesperson for the Houthi delegation, Mohammad ‘Abdel-Salaam, said on Sunday that this temporary suspension will only prolong the war. For almost a week, Saudi Arabia has boasted that the peace talks were going really well and that a solution was to be expected in the coming days; this does not appear to be the case now.

S.A. is not trying to raise the price of oil via Yemen. This is very much a Wahabi vs Shia/Iran power thing going on. Nothing in this war will make even the tiniest nibble in oil price.

Which btw, S.A. and Russia are the primary causes of the collapsed price, and it suits them just fine.. They are out to kill shale and deep water, kill it dead, and they are willing to spend a few years of gimpy profits to do just that.
Yes we are, as we are,
And so shall we remain,
Until the end.

The Houthi forces and Yemeni Republican Guard are on the verge of a symbolic victory in the southern region of Saudi Arabia after launching a massive offensive near the border-city of Najran these past two weeks.

Unlike Houthi-controlled Rabu’ah, Najran is a large metropolitan city that is considered one of the key strongholds for the Saudi Royal Army and regime.....
