Vympel Shipyard launches patrol boat built under import substitution practices.
http://en.portnews.ru/news/205453/
"According to the statement, the ship has been built under the programme on import substitution –due to the sanctions imposed on Russia, М470МК engine manufactured by Zvezda OJSC (Saint-Petersburg) was installed instead of MTU engine (Germany). "

That patrol boat will be zipping around for 15-20 years or so, buying maintenance parts from St. Petersburg, not Germany. The folks that put it in the water now are more familiar with the St. Petersburg engine than the German engine; and the German engine can no longer compete on price with the Russian engine, even if sanctions were lifted.

That is trade lost... Forever. Jobs lost in Germany. Forever.

Sanctions did not stop the Russians from putting that patrol boat in the water. It did create Russian labor. It did contribute to modernization of Russian manufacturing. It did contribute to Russia's domestic economy.

This whole "sanctions" against Russia as a way to promote policy is the stupidest, most counterproductive, pointless, shoot-yourself-in-the-foot exercise ever imagined. We should have just left them the heck alone, 10-20 years from now, they wouldn't have been able to manufacture a 2x4. But no... some MORON thought that if we deny the Russian middle class their chocolate bars and bmw's they'd take to the streets and overthrow Putin, and then sell the rest of Russia off to Western loyal oligarchs. The depth of fantasy thinking that had to be involved in that analysis is STAGGERING.

I get that its to late to undo; and politically we're all in on this "sanctions to punish Russia", but you know, at some point, you have to face the truth and accept that you're acting stupidly and should probably, at least, stop digging the hole deeper.

sorta related.. special deliver for "Sixstrings" if he's still reading.
Put: Admiral Makarov Project 11356 in google images and try and tell me Russia is a country that doesn't make anything. There's some great imagery of its construction and the shipyard; it'll be launched in a week or so. Yeah sanctions. mmmm; sure did punish those Ruskies good.
Yes we are, as we are,
And so shall we remain,
Until the end.

Agent kind of like the sanction on Cuba, it ended up making them more resilient and self-sufficient so that they are not vulnerable to economic and financial perturbations like for example Argentina or Greece.

Member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation — China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan — may be able to use Pakistani ports to get access to trade routes through the Arabian Sea once the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is completed and becomes operational.

Speaking at the Economic and Trade Ministers meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Xian, the capital of China’s Shaanxi province on Wednesday, Commerce Minister Khurram Dastagir Khan said that Pakistan’s trade strategy focuses on developing linkages with our neighbours, leveraging our geographical location and capitalising on regional connectivity initiatives.

Pakistan has an observer status at the SCO and is scheduled to become full member state in January 2016 which will provide new impetus to Pakistan’s relations with member states.

The minister emphasised that cross-border land trade is especially important for landlocked member countries as Pakistan and SCO countries will benefit substantially from greater integration through energy, commerce and transit trade.

He said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a landmark initiative under the umbrella of One-Belt, One-Road and this economic corridor will connect the nodes of growth centres falling between Kashgar and Gwadar.

The CPEC envisages connectivity and expansion of trade and investment through a network of roads, rail, fiber optic cables, and energy pipelines.

The commerce minister was of the view that Pakistan’s geo-strategic position offers Central Asian states access to the warm waters of Arabian Sea and huge markets of South Asia.

He said that Pakistan provides critical overland routes and connectivity for mutually beneficial trade and energy transactions.

In line with the vision of the prime minister of shared prosperity through connectivity, Pakistan has undertaken several initiatives which include rebooting of Quadrilateral Agreement for Traffic in Transit (QTTA) between China, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan and Pakistan.

The QTTA provides Pakistan a gateway to Central Asia and the landlocked Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan access to Pakistani seaports via China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The minister said Pakistan recently acceded to TIR Convention which would ensure more efficient and faster movement of goods across our borders to the countries of Central Asia.
