Be careful for what you wish for, oh charge storage lovers:

President Barack Obama on Tuesday proposed a 30-year agreement to cooperate with China on nuclear power, a deal that would allow the transfer of material, reactors, components and technology between the two nations, if approved by the U.S. Congress.

What a great wealth extraction device, the Capacibattery is. You'll never know what the true state of "your" Capacibattery is...having to rely on the software to tell you so. Getting a charge will be another amusing mystery...how are you supposed to know if you got ripped off? Even a new replacement battery is a mystery...a refurbished piece of junk.

At least with gasoline, you can take a measuring device to the pump to see if the volume of gas you got was what you paid for. Also, the engine will quickly tell you if that lowest grade is usable or not.

And the worst of it is that once you commit to electrification you are on the fast track to trains...nuclear + ev cars is a pipedream.

Here is a reality check for all you "Researchers are honest" dreamweavers:

http://condensedconcepts.blogspot.ca/20 ... mment-form

Students need to learn skepticism. Furthermore, it needs to be modelled to them by their advisors.
In particular, students should not just believe something because

- their advisor/supervisor believes it or tells them it is true
- it has been published, especially if it is in a luxury journal
- someone famous [or a group of famous people] claims it is true
- it is an exciting idea.

------------------------------

Gee, I guess this condensed matter physicist is saying in kind language: "The Principle Investigator is corrupt, the most 'reputable' journals are corrupt, and the dudes who win prizes are corrupt"

Other than that, the scientific enterprise is working fine...LOL.

So what specifically do you have to be sceptical about, for example, http://www.gizmag.com/high-energy-density-supercapacitor/37075/ apart from the fact it's just in the lab for now?

...
With a grant of $120 million from the US Department of Energy, JCESR wants to develop a battery that is “five times more powerful and five times cheaper in five years.” They call this the 5-5-5 Plan. “Can politicians create a better battery by throwing a ton of cash at it,” we ask?
...
There is no shortage of battery breakthroughs but most fall silent. Some claims sound so promising that one questions the credibility. It’s no secret that researchers prefer publishing the positive attributes while keeping the negatives under wraps. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Motors, stated in June 2014 that he had not seen a battery breakthrough that is better than what Tesla deploys in their EVs. The reason for the low success is meeting a minimum of 10 basic requirements, which are: [1] high specific energy for long runtimes, [2] high specific power for load currents, [3] affordable cost, [4] long life, [5] safety, [6] wide operating range, [7] no toxicity, [8] fast charging, [9] low self-discharge and [10] long shelf life
